free speech is not really censored in Russia to any significant degree. nothing like it was in the USSR. They learned their lesson to do like they do here - ignore unpleasant free speech.
It still exists to a certain degree.
There are also political assassinations -
Boris Nemtsov, a liberal politician , theoretical physicist and fierce critic of Putin, was shot dead hours after appealing to the public to support a march against Russia's war in Ukraine.
