That arises from the superstitious belief that people have no consciences outside of religious training, however pedophilia is legal in some countries. It is a human tendency. Even so, same sex is not really related.

It seems to me that there's greater danger of legalizing pedophilia by granting increased rights to religions.

The Blackmores just got sentenced to human trafficking-related charges stemming from them bringing their 13-year-old daughter into the US to be a child bride for a religious leader:

In many places, this sort of thing wouldn't even make the news because it would be legal.

It should also be noted that law does not equate to practice. Many families in India marry off their four-year-old daughters to thirty-something-year-old men to ensure they have a husband. Sometimes infants are married off in practice and officially given up by the family by the time the child hits puberty.

There are also marriages for spiritual/superstitious reasons like marrying a girl to a tree in order to lift a curse. (I think the tree marriages are in Southeast Asia)

You mean legalise sex with people under whatever age the state considers the age of consent?

Paedophilia is a sexual orientation; it's not like it's legal or illegal.

^^This! When we look at the map of age of consent, 9-year-olds are not sexually maturing, they have not yet reached puberty, very, very few of them probably are thinking about/desiring sex, and no laws at all? Should any of us be surprised we see this going on where there Prophet himself was married to such a young girl? (Also how we see the "must be married" going on in pretty much the same parts). Or the opposite, and going so old for legal age that there is just no reason to make it 20 years old, or not even 19 or 18.

I read that originally this was made possible in the case when a young girl got pregnant so she could marry. It would be terrible if a pregnant 12 year old girl was prohibited by law to get married.
