Oregon Shooter was Mormon?!

Revealed: Mormon student gunman, 15, argued with classmates about Hitler just one week before he arrived at school with a hidden arsenal and opened fire in the boy's locker room, killing one, wounding a teacher then shooting himself dead,

I'll be interested to see if this information is confirmed.

'Legally owned' guns ...

Guns kill, doesn't matter whose finger is on the trigger, be it a militant Jihadist or a peace-loving Mormon.

I wouldn't be surprised if it transpires the lad was on medication of some sort.
Wheter he was or wasn't, a 15 year old child should not have access to guns.

Hmmm, so should we make laws to prevent mormons from owning guns now?
Clearly this was another religious "mini war".
Oh the shame of it all

This growing trend on school shootings is getting nuts.
I can only assume that because the media gives it so much attention that severally mentally ill kids see it as them being a "hero" by shooting up innocent people and will always be remembered for it.

Football learned long ago that not putting streakers on national TV and not even filming them has detoured them, because there is no point to doing it now.
When will the media realize this about murderers and such?

Seriously, it should be illegal to even air interviews and have them on talk shows via internet, the trials should not be broadcast either.
Their faces should be blurred out, and nothing about them discussed other than, "murder caught finally"

edit:
It just was talked about on the news, never once did they say a thing about him being morman, but did say he came from a military background, nothing about the hitler argument either.
Did not wound any teacher, shot at the coach, and they showed the coach walking with the cops, he had a near miss, his over sized shirt had a hole in it.
The bullet never touched him though, lucky for him, it went through his shirt as he was running and missed him completely.
Because the coach was able to pull the fire alarm, the cops got there in time, only one kid died.
The kid killed himself, that's all they said.
No clue why he didnt continue to fire at people, he had quite a lot of ammo.

That's not what I said. My remark was a comment on the irony of a supposedly peace-loving Mormon owning guns...

As for my other point. With many acts of violence it has been shown that the person committing the violence was on some form of pharmaceutical drug at the time and was acting out of character.
The same thing has been shown many times with people on steroids committing sudden and 'explosive' acts of violence. (This may well be the case with Pistorius, but that's for another thread.)

I wasn't referring to you, I was replying to the Op itself. :D

BTW though, what is so wrong with any religious person owning a gun?
Scripture says "thou shall not kill"
Not "thou shall not protect yourself and your family"

I don't see how that matters.

I'm curious to see if his faith/lack of faith/pressure from faith played into his decision at all. The Mormon faith literally involves your entire life -- it just isn't a Sunday thing. I'm curious to see if the pressures from it (if the claims are true) had anything to do with what happened.

A Mormon shot people, therefore Mormons are bad people.

Did I miss anything or is that your point?

Not my point at all.

A Mormon teenager shot some people, why did he shoot those people? Was it his family? His faith? A combination of both? Or none of the above. You should know better than to assume I think like that.

Why would it interest you?

As a former member of that faith, I would want to know if his religion/belief/faith had any influence on his decision. Because Mormon is more specific than say just Christian, and because the Mormon faith tends to be more restrictive, I would want to know if this had any influence on his decisions.

Although I find the Mormon religion to be on the more kooky end, I've know many, many Mormons in my life, and, I have to admit that, overall, they are among the friendliest, most supportive, most optimistic, and all around nicest people as a group I've ever encountered.

A shooter will always be someone, & belong to some group.
Ain't no group immune to having some perp in their midst.

Never said there wasn't. But, because of my past and experience with the Mormon Church, I'm curious to see the reasons and why.

I didn't direct my post at you. Twas just a general comment.
I often find myself on the receiving end of some argument that I'm wrong because _______________ is evil.
(Insert name of some devil de jour in the blank.)
