Are men and women equally intelligent?

just say that men have a higher average cranial volume, hence more brain capacity.
It actually isn't the total volume of the brain that counts, but the total suface area of the brain which is determined by the creases in the brain.
While there are some general differences in areas men and women perform differently in, have a different perspective on, etc., the overlap is far greater than the differences, and if you take social programing out of the question, men and women tend to be more alike than different.
Personally I feel very confident that in a society where there is no bias or discrimination based on sex, then men and women would probably be equal in regards to intelligence.

Neither all men are equally intelligent nor all women are equally intelligent, in my opinion.

I propose a multi-faceted intelligence test:
- Write your name in the snow.
- Replace a light bulb in a ceiling fixture without a ladder.
- Belch volume.
- Name a variety of wrenches.
- Perform 3 Stooges shtick.

We'll finally see who is smarter....women or men!

- I can write my name in the snow with my finger. But if you were meaning urinating your name in the snow, I can do that too, but I have to run really fast.

- I can replace a light bulb in a ceiling fixture without a ladder. I use a chair.

- Belching is not my strong point, but it is for my daughter. She wins blech contest in the house hands down when she goes up against the teen and adult males in the house.

- Vice grip, socket wrench, and those hydraulic wrenches. I only worked with variances of those types of wrenches when I helped construct theatre sets for shows.

- I did a 3 Stooges schtick in front of our Junior Ballet class that garnered a mild chuckle.

.

My turn for putting together an intelligence quiz:

1) Show how to gracefully walk straight, up and down stairs, with long dresses, and then RUN in high heels. Extra points if the heel is a stiletto.
2) Express your feelings succinctly and accurately.
3) Name all the characters in "Sex and the City". Extra points for naming all the characters boyfriends.
4) Demonstrate a real hug. Not the type of "hug" where you clasp one hand with your hugger, quickly wrap around the other person, and slap them on the back. REAL hugs show intelligence.
5) Cry.

This is a very complicated subject, since there are many types of intelligence and many factors which go into developing intelligence. IQ is not a very accurate way of comparing intelligence.

My personal opinion is that I think on average women are more intelligent than men from an IQ perspective but when comparing the highest percentiles, men far exceed women in all fields. This becomes apparent when viewing the best scientists, philosophers, mathematicians, lawyers, artists, etc.

However I realize that my opinion itself is flawed because of many reasons. Patriarchy, motherhood, capitalism, etc are all strains on women. Our society even today is built by men for men, the leaders of the world are men, the financial markets are run by men and technology is a male dominated field which fuels the economy. So the overall system is biased towards men. I know I sound like a feminist (yikes!) but I feel that as long as our current system exists, there will never be true equality.

That being said I think the educational system is biased against boys. This is because of the way we're taught, group based learning, participation, etc. Males thrive off competition, it's what drives us. Group work pretty much destroys that. I know we're supposed to work in teams, but in some classes...that's all we did! And we all got good grades on top! What was the point after all? I just coasted through school, it was only in college that I was challenged and it was in college where I discovered my potential.

Also some people think grades and intelligence are strongly correlated. I would strongly disagree. To me grades suggest work ethic more than intelligence.

I tend to agree with you in the points coloured in magenta.

I feel kind of stupid, but what do you mean by "two heads"?

Really? The head on your shoulders and the one on your wang.

As an aside, the one on my wang is so big it wears a larger hat than I do. True story.

Ok. Now I am even more confused about MysticSang'has comment :p. Why would you say that men needs two heads to compete with women when one of the mans two heads is an idiot who just wants to find a good parking lot?

She's just jealous. Imagine having to practice with a hula hoop just to write your name in the snow.

Depending on which head you're referring to, that comment might not win many votes for Man-Is-More-Smarter-Than-Woman campaign.
