Why so many religions.....

MW0082

Jesus 4 Profit.... =)~
Over the weekend I got to thinking, like I always do.

I wonder, how come there are so many different religions. I mean I understand why, different cultures, different areas of the world and so on. However we are all aware of these other religions. Each proclaims their own messiah and message and god. Many are very similair.

My wonder is don't we look a little silly having 300 (made up number) religions, and if there is a god, then 299 of them are wrong. Does this not seem a bit ridiculous?? People are dying over these silly views, wars are started over this difference in views.

Why do we continue to allow ourselves to get pulled apart as humans, to be diveresed religious people? We are all humans and all want to survive for generations to come. At this rate, we won't survive another mellenium.... I mean semantics is what this is all over......

Not necesarily. If there is a God, she might accept worship from just about all of these religions.

And all these wars you speak of - there are many, many more wars started for boundaries, consolodation of power, and natural resources than there are wars started only for religious reasons. Religion or nationalism or a mixture of both are typically used to get soldiers to fight, but the war itself is almost always about other things.

i disagree, respectfully, because of this...

i couldn't agree with you more on this

MW0082, this is a question I have wondered for such a long time... Never found the answer either.

Why so many religions.....
Because so many people get off on the power trip religion offers. It's evidently pretty enticing to many people to split off from an established religion or denomination and form their own cadre of followers. Then, of course, there's always the financial aspect: "Would Jesus wear a Rolex?" Maybe not, but a lot of preachers would.

imo, if god were to be objectionably empirically proven we would interpret the ideology of god the same way. since god is a purely subjective ideology, that is why there are so many religions.

people cannot agree as a whole, I dont believe we have evolved enough to change the fact.

Does this not seem a bit ridiculous??

yes it does to me

Why do we continue to allow ourselves to get pulled apart as humans, to be diveresed religious people?

Again I believe we are not evolved far enough away from animals. We still hold onto petty myths and we are still a stubborn, violent, childish species holding on tighly to which we know nothing about. This may sound harsh but history shows my statement is pretty accurate.

Yeah, this.

@OP, I believe there is no 'exclusive way'. Even if there was a way that was one-hundred percent correct. Using the 300 religions as an example, I do not believe that the other 299 religions that people adhere to would be given any kind of punishment, so long as these people do not harm others (except in self-defence).

This is true, but how come we can't have one? If the religions are all the same or similiar then make one religion and accept peace.....

very true, everyone wants to hold on to the fact that they are right and their god is THE god. Maybe if we could get rid of our pride.....

Ok but can't we at least accept others, and not have such anomosity against each other for being different...

Hinduism and Buddhism have a long History of getting along with different faiths. This has changed in south Asia do to the influence from the West.
In fact Jews will tell you that Hindu's have no History of anti-Semitism even though Jews have lived in India for over 2000 years.

well correct me if i am wrong;
i thought hinduism and buddhism wasn't revolving around the monotheistic or polytheistic ideology...but more like WE are GOD not gods

I think its down to power broking in each culture plus Humans seem to like feeling "Holier than Thou"

Totaly rediculous, people are dying because of these views although wars tend to be more about gain

In simple terms, in modern parlance: god is Stupid Huge. All the books ever written, ain't no hairy toenail of no god.

IOV, very simply because God sends a new Divine Messenger to renew religion and provide updated teachings, typically every 500-1,000 years! And each of these Messengers founds a new religion, each of which is actually a new stage in a single ever-evolving faith, the Faith of God!

Spiritual teachings are eternal and never change (though sometimes expressed in different wordings). Examples are "There is a God"; "You're here for a reason"; "Don't murder"; etc..

Social teachings, in contrastt, are INTENTIONALLY temporary and may be altered or cancelled by each new Messenger (though not by us). Examples include laws about: prayer, fasting, marriage and divorce, administration, etc..

So all the great religions do indeed form a coherent whole for anyone who actually cares to examine the situation in detail!

Peace, :)
