The word "avatara" means "to descend." In Vaishnavic mythology, Vishnu descends as avatars "whenever there's a decline in Dharma, and Adharma reigns." Krishna was the primary one.
The description of Jesus in the gospels matches that of an avatar.

An avatar is kind of like a manifestation of a god/goddess (or the God/Goddess?) or a form that the deity takes on, right?
Concerning the OP, I do believe that it is just a myth or story. It has its own value in that sense, but not as history.

Haha oh yeah, you're right. Even the bulldozers! The sludge in the tree is one of my favorite cartoon movie villains.
