The word "avatara" means "to descend." In Vaishnavic mythology, Vishnu descends as avatars "whenever there's a decline in Dharma, and Adharma reigns." Krishna was the primary one.
The description of Jesus in the gospels matches that of an avatar.
An avatar is kind of like a manifestation of a god/goddess (or the God/Goddess?) or a form that the deity takes on, right?
