Should Marijuana Be Legal

Zephyr

My argument is that legalizing marijuana doesnt matter. People can still do it just as easily anyways.
But it does matter. You're right, we can do it anyways. All that means is that we're spending huge amounts of tax money for nothing.

The price is EXTREMELY inflated right now due to the illegality. Because it's illegal, dealers can get away with selling it at $200+ an ounce. After all, who's going to undercut them? With legalization will come open competition and larger grow-ops, reducing prices even after taxes. Look at it this way: Cannabis is far easier to grow and cure than tobacco is and is currently untaxed thanks to the illegality. Despite this, one of these two plants will cost you at least $200 or more for an ounce while the other can be bought for less than a tenth of that.

illegal dealers undercut each other all the time, people want a good deal no matter what they buy. is their any studies or actual figures for this "legal price"

and just one quick question who exactly is the Iraqi resistance you are supporting in your signature?

I'll see if I can find any sort of hard data beyond simple predictions, but really, it should be common sense. When dealers sell cannabis, they are taking legal risks, and they don't do so cheaply. If legalized, they not only wouldn't need that extra "risk fee", but increased competition would force prices down. There is absolutely no reason for cannabis to be the price it is, other than illegality. The most common comparison I've heard is to raw tobacco. Smokable tobacco is much harder to produce, yet the price is far lower due to increased competition and legality. Besides, if dealers were to lower their prices to undercut the competition, it just means less money in the hands of criminals, yes?

I support more the goal than the groups, but "Support the removal of the American occupation of Iraq" just doesn't have the same flow to it. I mean, if you REALLY want a thread about it, I can reply, but there's not a whole lot more to it.

the price is fixed by how much people will pay.

sI bet that more than half of the men in Iraq are there willingly, and want to be there...but it has spent 152 billion dollars while over there....not even close to Obamas spending in half of a year.

Keep in mind that many of the soldiers are in Iraq and Afghanistan because they want to do good. My friend Tony Boneca fought with the Canadian Forces and was killed in a firefight defending Kandahar.

He believed in the humanitarian work the Canadian Forces does. I suppose you rejoice that he was killed? Killed trying to ensure that little Afghani girls can go to school without acid being thrown in their faces? Or religious police beating them if they stray into the streets without a male relative? Killed trying to ensure that millions of impoverished Afghanis can have access to clean drinking water?

Just what crime was my friend Tony guilty of to warrant his death? I'm curious.

None. Zephyr doesnt care. All he thinks is that the war is wrong, and that is that. He doesnt give a dam about anything else. I think that its sick. many people have been inspired by this war. MOST of the soldiers are good hardworking guys

Hell, I would be with the Canadian Forces right now, if my family hadn't given me so much flak when I suggested it. I tried to negotiate with them into maybe getting a non-combat role. And after deliberation, I think I can still do what I want - helping people and serving my country - by joining CSIS.

 I wonder if CSIS members deserve to be killed.

That's interesting. $160 is the normal price for an ounce here, and there are those who refuse to pay that, saying that $160 is too expensive.

I did forget to mention the jail overcrowding. Because of the "war on drugs" America imprisons 1 out of 1000 people. Some jails at time have had over 70% of the inmates in on drug charges.
