Any truth to this?

A couple of days ago my wife & & were going though some old boxes that we had laying around..I found some older books of mine I have been looking for. One of them is called A Delision Of Satan
by Francis Hill.

I never got the chance to finish it in the introduction she makes this statement.

Westren Christianty is unique among the monotheisms in the power it has attributed to the Devil. In Judaism Satan is firmly subservent to God & is never allowed to attain such near-omnipotent status. In Islam, Satan is either a trival creature, not to be taken seriously, or he will be forgiven on the last day; he can never be an ultimate threat & is no match from Allah. It would seem that Westren Christianty has never really attained that degree of confidence in their God.

Would love to hear the thought of the Christians on this or anyone else.

The fundamentalist churches of my youth depicted Satan as extremely powerful, second only to God in power but only able to wreak havoc by divine permission, always ready to pounce upon the less vigilant to turn them from the right path.

The Devil is only considered powerful in comparison to a human, whom stands no chance against him alone. In comparison to God, he is nothing.

When I was younger, like 14-16 years younger, I went to a church in Missouri where they taught that Satan is equal to God in power and knowledge.

Sounds like that church thought VERY highly of Satan (or very little of God). Maybe they were jealous...

Got me.
I remember my mother almost literally defecated herself, gathered us four up, and ran for the door.

When I was young, I was told the front pew of the church was empty, because that's where the devil sat.

???!!!!

When I was young, I was told the front pew of the church was empty, because that's where the devil sat.
just a joke right??? although it is the sinners, not the righteous that need to be preached to LOL!

Just thinking, if I were the devil what would I teach?

I would teach that either:
I was as powerful as God
or
that I did not exist... that hell did not exist etc...

what denominations were these again?

I guess if all you have to do is believe - we are told that the devils do in fact believe, so they must be the first ones to be saved right?

James 2:19 Thou believest that there is one God; thou doest well: the devils also believe

no wonder some people are atheists with a church like that!!!
My dad says he won't go to church because "church scares the hell out of him". Some churchs scare the hell out of me too!

sorry, I should not bash any church groups - but as none have been specifically mentioned, everyone can pretend it was some other group than theirs I am referring too :)

So you believe that God and Satan are in a battle for our souls?

This is why denominations exist. People have all of these ideas about a particular religion or denomination, meld it with their own personal views, maybe even borrow ideas from other religions, and go try and convince others that they are right. Good grief.

I've always thought of it like numbers and infinity...

Whether the number is one or a googleplex(sp), the difference between that number and infinity is... infinite.

Satan is only powerful when christians need to blame something on someone else, to wipe the slate clean.
He is only to be feared because apparently its his fault when something goes wrong, when people can't take responsibility for their own shocking behaviour.
