The Good Dinosaur ... it was boring at best.

There's a striking resemblance between Bert and Ernie and about half the people I know in real life.
I just saw the new Star Wars movie with my family on IMAX 3-D, and FIVE STARS! It was obvious also, "Part 2" is on it's way now that Skywalker got his laser sword back. Harrison Ford did a great job, everyone did actually and love that girl with the Brit accent, she was a charmer for the movie, plot and action.

Paul. I still think it's funny knowing the alien, in all likeliness, is far more "Christlike" than the Christians who complained about the evolution scene. And of course because of the total orgy geek-fest of sci-fi references.

To close out 2015, a friend and I went to see Quentin Tarantino's 8th movie and it's about what you would expect.
The first half is very dialogue heavy, so much so that I thought it would be like Death Proof or Kill Bill Vol. 2, where there would be very little graphic violence in comparison to his other films. However, the 2nd half comes around and the over the top (and very bloody) violence kicks in. There are a few strange non-sequitur moments which are common in Tarantino's films, but luckily they don't last too long here.
Honestly, while nothing too entirely special, if you can get beyond the 1st half (which I personally enjoyed), then it's the enjoyable Tarantino schlock that people want to see.

I watched Clerks and The Martian last night. Clerks I love, especially since I saw so much of what goes on in that movie working at a convenience store, and the Martian turned out to be a pretty good movie (although I was actually hoping for something more of an ending on par with Das Boot).
I love Miyazaki and Studio Ghibli, but I have to say that I didn't think their first feature film was the greatest. It has the charm that one expects from the studio and amazing animation, but the story and characters weren't fleshed out and it just kinda ends suddenly. Apparently it was based on a manga and the story continued in that format, but I really have no interest in knowing what happens.
Still, if one is a fan of the studio or wants to complete a collection of the films, then I suppose I would recommend it.

In keeping with my Miyazaki theme, I finally saw Princess Mononoke last night and it, so far, is technically the best of his filmography. Although not my personal favorite
As usual, the animation was gorgeous and it was the best of any of his animated films that I've seen so far. The English voice acting was also one of the best that I've seen of any anime. There was also the environmentalist message that wasn't overbearing like it is in other films and felt like it was just another natural part of the storytelling. Actually, in relation to that, I really liked how there really wasn't a villain in this movie. Sure, some of the characters did awful things, but you can understand why. I was also taken aback with just how violent this movie was.
However, it's not a perfect movie. It does have a couple of flaws.
One is the running time. It kinda ran out of steam towards the end of the third act. I think if they trimmed about 15 minutes from the running time then it would have been a good length.
Second is Mononoke herself. I understand why she hates humans and, despite being human herself, doesn't want to identify as one, but she isn't particularly interesting. In fact, she really isn't in the movie all that much. If anything, the young man who is in the film from the start should have been the title character. He goes through a major change, he's the one caught in a great and morally ambiguous battle. He's just more interesting as a character and is far more complex and engaging.
But overall, it's still a great movie and one that I would recommend.
