Why should someone believe?

I am an atheist. I don't believe in a god. I never really have, since I grew up in a nation where religion has very little power and my family never encouraged any sort of religion in my upbringing.

I haven't had a real conversation about beliefs with religious people before and I'd like to hear why someone does believe in a god or perhaps why they think others should as well.

The spiritual path is a personal path so we should not try to force anyone to believe what we do. But what we can do is give information on what the belief/religion is and why it connects to us, But if someone does not want to believe it is very little we can do :)

Okie dokie. I believe in God but am not a Christian. I suppose I am a bit optimistic because I like the idea of a bigger secret picture, of an afterlife. Though some may mistake me for an atheist, I suppose.

So, is the reason you believe in a god that you like the idea of a god and the 'benefits' a god belief would bring?

I think some of us might be hardwired towards belief, so for us who are it is just about being true to our authentic selves

There is certainly reason to believe that people are hardwired towards certain beliefs. However I doubt that there is a separation in all humans that some are just hardwired to believe and some are not.

As one acts always just on believe, householder, as long as not perfect awakened, it's surely better to ask "What should one believe into (for ones long term happiness?".

And why the acting on believe? To get known, see and understand by oneself: for an ending of any believe, one takes on acting on believe, to be lasting satisfied and released from any doubts.

I suppose. Really just because I have problems coming to grasps with the idea that upon death, the flame is put out, that it's over. I feel like it makes life semi-meaningless (to me).

I have never thought that I would continue living after I die. I myself have a hard time imagining why someone would think that x is true because x makes me feel good.

Well I see the future of humanity requires us to submit to the elixer given by God. Neglecting that elixer is at our own peril.

This seems to be a common perspective. My view is that light from a candle has meaning even if it eventually goes out.
