Why I dislike driving, is it easier/less dangerous outside america?

In America one can find either urban or rural living. What you deride as “sprawl” others would call “elbow room” and idyllic. Some find urban living congested, crime ridden and chaotic. To each his own, I say. America allows for choices and the pursuit of happiness. Don’t yuck someone else’s yum.

This is the point at which, I suppose, if I were on the Right, I would yell about "freedom of speech".

I wonder what the learner driver training is like compared to the UK. In the UK there is a theory test to pass before taking the practical test.

In the US we tend to have both a written test which is taken first and a driving test that one takes after one practices a bit. While using a learner's permit one has to driver with a licensed driver. One cannot practice on one's own.

When it comes to getting a motorcycle license it is bit different. I think that one needs a regular driver's license first and then one takes a written test to get a permit. Then one can drive, but rules very between states. In Minnesota one could drive by oneself. One could not have a passenger, drive on the freeway, or drive at night. When I gave a coworker that desperately needed a ride, at night, on the freeway, and the primary tank ran out of gas and I had to pull over to the shoulder to switch to reserve I realized that it was time to take the test..

But the zoning system has taken the local amenities away from the people who need them. So no local shops pubs or anything else, you have to drive miles to get a loaf of bread. And no local work. Nothing local for the elderly or infirm.

Much prefer the village system of the UK and Europe,. With a mixed infrastructure.
