Why do Hindu Punjabis and Delhiites feel they are superior to Sikhs?

I've noticed this with Delhiites, HPs and with Arya Samajis; they go to Gurdwara for the free food but make Sardar 12 O'clock jokes and say that KPS Gill was good and Bhindranwale a terrorist. They feel Sikhs are labourers beneath them yet insist Sikhs believe in Rama and we're soley created to protect Hindus.

Where is this. Nothing like this exist much in India anymore.Both bhindrawala's group and the people who killed Sikhs in the riots after Indira's murder are murderers and terrorists. Today Punjab is a very prosperous state with vibrant democracy and no separatist movement. It only exists as an emotive appeal among some groups of Sikh expatriots who left India in the 1980-s and are no longer in touch with current state of affairs at home.

Some 10,000 Hindus were killed during the disturbance. Many Hindus left Punjab to escape for their life and possessions. Hindus have no problem if Bhindranwale is considered a martyr. He was used by Indira Gandhi because Congress was defeated in Punjab. She wanted the Akali Dal rule to be disturbed.

And that is an old story. Currently Akali Dal is discredited and Punjab has given the rule back to Congress party.

10,000 Hindus were not killed. That's rubbish. Elements within the Congress party perpetrated the riots in which mostly Sikhs were targeted and killed.

There are no exact figures either for Hindus or Sikhs who were killed by Sikh terrorists or Pakistanis disguised as Sikh terrorists*. Perhaps this will give you some idea:

You are talking about the 84 massacre and not what preceded or followed it, the Sikh insurgency. There is no count of how many Hindus (or Sikhs) were killed in the villages and their bodies thrown in canals.

* It very easy for a Punjabi Pakistani to pose as a Sikh, only the mustache is different. The facial and bodily features, language, mannerism is exactly the same.

I agree about the sardarji jokes to some extent.

But most such self-deprecatory jokes were created by Sikh writers like Khuswant Singh and others. It is a sign of health, high self-esteem and positivity to laugh at oneself or one's own community without taking offence. Among the Sufis there is Mullah Nasruddin jokes.

In his book President Giani Zail Singh, the Sikh author Joginder Singh states "...who can enjoy a good joke against himself or against his tribe except a Punjabi and more particularly, a Sikh?"

The Hindus, being a caste-ridden lot, often enjoys jokes at other's or other caste's or religion's expense but will not tolerate one against their person or caste. It is sign of low self-esteem and pettiness. It is the progressive Hindu liberals and secularists in this regard who seem to be an exception to this.

When I went to Mumbai there was a Sikh with a Bhindranwale photo in his car and in Punjab there are plenty of Sikh households/ market stalls selling Bhindranwale merchandise. Even Akal Takht Museum honours him and has his photo

Say separatist Sikhs. Otherwise Indian politicians have nothing against Sikhism. The present Congress government in Punjab is headed by a Sikh, Amrinder Singh. Any Indian government will do the same. It will not let the boundaries change. Anyone trying to do that will face the fourth largest army in the world.

Cool. We have no problem with that, unless they engage in separatism. In which case they face the law and the determination of Indian people.
