Why can't we see god?

God made it pretty clear that when we were helping the poor and sick we were helping him.
We all see God.... in Others.

If god wanted us to worship him, then why hasn't he made himself clear. Surely if he created a world and humans to see how we would cope (what other reason would he have?) then he wouldn't want half of us spending our time worshipping him. And even then i wonder why god would intervene to change the course of the world via humans. Wouldn't this just cause unrest instead of solving anything?

put simply, why does god want to worship himself when he hides himself from us?

First of all when God did show Himself it didn't help, people still went astray (All we, like sheep, have gone astray). Second God did make is clear...believe in His Son.
