Seems there are many diverse interests and many topics and many posts of these topics. Here's the kind of posts I prefer and enjoy:
  1. Tone is friendly and accepting of my worldview.
  2. Adds info and insights.
  3. I'm interested in the topic.
  4. Coherent thinking.
  5. Good use of the written language is a big plus.
I am more likely to give a good happy rating to shorter posts. If there is something I agree with or like, but something else I don't, I don't give a good happy rating.

If there is a long post, including long OP, I rarely read it.

There have been many ESL members over the years who use English better than a good number of the native speakers. Probably one of the things I like most about RF in general is the lack of "text speak" and good language usage. It makes the posts so much better when you don't have to decipher it.

A good tip....
Recognize merit in what someone else has said,
& converse with them showing interest.

Oh, & if you can fake sincerity, all the better.

Often enough, it depends on both the topic and who is creating the thread. Some folks are good "conversationalists" and can make an even relatively uninteresting subject interesting to discuss with them.

Very cool...
What I appreciate:
1) Honesty, but expressed politely
2) New information, especially if it's untraceable
3) Schematic exposition
4) Openness to interdisciplinary dialogue.
5) A very rational way of expressing concepts (short sentences with the right words in the right places)...that's how I talk in my native language.
