Sruthi and Smriti are the forms of vedic literature. Sruti is meant for recitation and smriti is meant to be kept in memory. Sruti is a primary literature created by god. Smriti is secondary literature which is man made. Examples of shruthi includes Upanishads and Vedas. Examples of Smriti includes Puranas

Sruti is kept in memory as well. And lots of non-Sruti literature is recited. So the difference in definition is not that clear.

Also, Sruti is not created by God. It is believed to be beginningless and therefore can have no author, including God.
