I don't know how much financial value a clean conscience is. I suppose theoretically, it could make you some money, avoid lawsuits, keep you out of prison, stop a costly addiction, stop unwanted pregnancies, and assuming there is a God, help you find the right spouse and nuclear family.

But , a lot of money can be made doing what goes against your conscience too.

I definitely want a clean conscience and want to stop hurting people more than I want gold.

So, one new way is, I have to not call Muhammad a Dictator, because it hurts good humble loveable people (as I think most Muslims are good people).

But if no one votes you into power, no one can impeach you, you speak for God, and you can override everyone in your government, you conquer with the sword, and oppress people whose Religion is different than the official religion of the state, people are executed for minor things, and no free speech, is that not a Dictatorship? So, should I change vocabulary, avoid speaking the truth, to avoid offending good, humble, loveable people?

If the answer is yes, I will try to do so. Please help me out.

I want integrity more than gold, no stealing, no dishonesty, no internet porn, custody of the eyes, as little masturbation as possible (roughly three weeks now fellas woot! Woot! :D) custody of the eyes, humility, no lust, no covetousness, as little laziness as possible, hopefully little anger, no envy, no gluttony, sobriety, no unforgiveness.

Idolatry is a tricky one, because I believe in friends in high places, and I need Female companionship from heavenly beings (which Jesus and his Father cannot offer. These Queens are helpful. My surname is alternative for Jack. A Jack is right below a Queen in a deck of cards. ;) )

So, how does it sound? Good plan? Pursue such virtues and high moral standards like the greatest treasures? Why or why not??

A clean conscience imho is worth more than a million dollars, if the million dollars comes with selfishness, vanity, dishonesty, immaturity, and hurting others.

A clean conscience is priceless. Not possible though for real. In my opinion, of course.

I didn't vote. I wanted to but I don't understand how to.
Regarding the poll, the second result was supposed to say "I don't think it is a good idea overall". It was a typo error.

It is asking basically, does what I'm saying, as a general rule sound like a good idea, or not?

A Jew on TV once told me, "You have to be idealistic, because if you aren't, you'll want to put a gun up to your head."

Nothing my eye, Something for sure
I think civilization depends on living a clean conscience. Not all conscience's are the same though. Making the trust in society is important.

I mean if everyone was ripping each other off, and cheating society that would make life unliveable. If everyone was undermining the deserve, then where would anybody be; nowhere and a lot worse.

I'm not saying there isn't a lot of people living in bad faith, with nothing but selfish motives. I'm not saying that deserving people always get what they deserve either. However even in today's world there still is people trying to do what's right. There'd be no value if their weren't such people.

Suppose deserving people never get anything out of life and they get nothing but used up. The real worth and glory is in honoring such people that are in good conscience. What worth is a world of thieves and oppressors, abusers, and malevolence? In such a world there is no honor and thus no glory, and nothing worth having anyway.

So I'd rather die with nothing, then have everything without deserving anything or worse, having everything at the expense of those deserving.

The only way to clean ones conscience, is to die to the patterns of behavior they were exhibiting before.

If you want to change your behavior and way of speaking about other people or religions.

It will not cost you any money, but a lot of effort from yourself:) the only one who can change you, are yourself

Yes, bad habits do take long to brake :) some say to learn a new skill take 21 days if practiced every day :) same with unlearning a skill or change it.

And of course a wish to change must be there.
I have struggled with being drunk and high and worshipping chemicals that get you intoxicated from age 14 to just 9 months ago, age 34. It is an extremely deep seated cunning, baffling, powerful, tricky disease.

I have many bad habits!

I have quit a hundred times though. I keep getting swept away by unruly passions and falling back into vice.

With God's grace, hopefully I am sober from here on out! :)

You have certainly not had the most easy life, and I can understand that turning it over to be a success so you can live a healthy life isn't going to happen in 21 days.
But I wish and pray you will one day defeat all your bad habbits.

…/as little masturbation as possible (roughly three weeks now fellas woot! Woot! :D)

But I’m confused about how this fits into it all; it’s a little like saying “as little farting as possible“ - entirely irrelevant and potentially painful. Unless you meant in public of course...

I don't think masturbation is always a bad thing.

It can relieve built up sexual tension, and when I ejaculate, I ask that my friend in Heaven be exalted Queen of Heaven and earth, to try and turn it into a game and offering some one else can enjoy, not just self gratification.

However, I do feel that abstaining from masturbation can increase the virtues of purity of soul, and help a person better control the unruly passion of lust.

But better to relieve oneself if a lot of tension builds however.

But Lust and excessive masturbation can cause earthquakes in Haiti!:rolleyes:

This might be controversial of me, but I actually think that honesty is a bad thing.

When somebody asks you how you're doing, they don't actually care. If you honestly answer them, you just make the situation awkward.

When somebody asks you how they look or what you think of something they made, the polite thing to do is lie and be positive. Your actual opinions do not matter. They're subjective, anyway. Most people (not all, of course, but most) are just looking for validation.

Dishonesty is what keeps us from tearing out each other's throats like animals. The people who brag about how "genuine" they are cause a ton of petty conflicts and are frequently rude and obnoxious, causing way more harm out of their selfish need to express themselves without a single consideration for how that affects other people.

I must be such a lier, its much easier to say something nice than it is to tell the truth. Though i pride myself on not lying. Tiz a real personal conflict

I think this depends on the way one is raised.
I'm born and bred in a culture where people are known for their blunt directness.
Not being direct can be perceived as underhanded and/or cowardly.

Personally I don't like it when one has to use thrice the amount of words or say the opposite of what they mean(without irony and/or sarcasm) for the sake of being polite.

I don't think it necessarily divides people more.
Americans generally don't seem to be into that directness much (Judging by the way you speak about social rules, I suspect you're American too?), yet It seems they are an increasingly divided people.
My people (the Dutch) are very direct, yet I don't think we are particularly divided(although very individualistic).
Japanese on the other hand, are extremely "dishonestly" polite, and yet they seem to be a very unified people.

Yes, you're right, it probably is a cultural thing. I am American, and due to America being so highly individualistic (which is what causes the appearance of massive division) these little lies are pretty necessary so that the great differences between us don't rip our society apart at the seams.

I was also thinking about my friends' descriptions of living in China and some of the descriptions I've heard about Kyoto, both of which deal a lot with white lies. To save face in China and to follow etiquette in Kyoto.
