What are Your Goals?

Fluffy

A fool
As far as my beliefs are concerned I would like people to listen to my beliefs and my reasoning for believing them and adopt them if they seem sufficiently convincing.

In return, I strive to listen to other people's beliefs and their reasoning for them and adopt them if they seem sufficiently convincing.

So far this goal has led me from theism to atheism and I am excited to find out where it will take me in the future.

Also just to qualify: When I say "adopt" I don't mean so much as actively converting others but the feeling that Descartes describes when a line of reasoning is so strong that the claim forces itself upon you.

When it comes to sharing your beliefs, what are your goals?

Mostly to find others with similar experiences,
and insights I can connect with,
because what I value more than sharing my own experiences,
is having my mind & reality expanded by others,
who have possibility expanding ideas to share...
that might move me out yet into another paradigm shift?

People are often mocked when they share their "other" type experiences.
I appreciate the general open mindedness here at RF,
and at least the courtious and gracious way
with wich most differing view points are discussed here.
I have found WONDERFUL discussions here,
as I have found nowhere else. and I have looked.

I have no goals but to learn, grow, share, laugh, and develop friendships.:rainbow1:

I understand why you are so bitter now.

It's God's fault these people treated you this way.

Of course it wan't God's fault, I don't have any bitterness towards God as I don't believe the deity, if he exists, can intervene physically in our world!

Jesus loves you
The 'Jesus come into my heart' nonsense!

It sounds like you are the victim of bad evangelism, I was too, I was told that if I said a prayer to ask Jesus into my heart I would be born again and be saved. I was pressured into "making a decision for Christ" by my sister who had also done the same thing several weeks before me. Afterwards what I found was that I was the same old person ( 10 year old person) that I ever was only with this new Christian name tag and all these expectations that I couldnt live up to.

A true born again event is nothing like this but it is very real. The evangelical church is full of people like I once was and like you once were - false converts to a religion we did not understand.
