Westboro at it again...

What? Me worry?
It's a decidedly UNPOPULAR church. I think the best thing to do is ignore them. They're kooks.

This is true (only a handful of "members") but I've often wondered how they get the money to fly everyone around the country for these farces?

It was on fire when I laid down on it.

Who knows? Maybe someone should investigate that.

Still waiting for that offer to send them to Iraq to be reinstated.

They're very smart, since the bulk of their income I believe is from settlements via the courts. Their entire family is trained in law and employ themselves as attorneys. They spend a lot of time poking the hornets nest and ride their negative press with a severe martyr complex and the ability to navigate through the courts gaining settlements from suing people who they say violate their civil rights.

I think not only are they a stain on Christianity, but on attorneys as well. And that's saying something.

Yeah, I forgot about that. I believe that one of them has actually argued a case in the Supreme Court.

Fred Phelps was a fairly successful lawyer. I believe he specialised in cases of race discrimination, but I'm working from memory here. I could wiki it, but he really doesn't seem worth the effort.

Not really. From what I understand most of the congregation belong to the founder's family. It's just that its kooky hijinks attract the media spotlight.

IIRC, that was indeed were they hit upon the fundraising technique of taunting and insulting people with money until they hit you, then sue the bejeesus out of them. The race issue died out so they adopted homophobia as a replacement.

I think he was also sexually abused as a child, which probably spurned his hatred of homosexuals. It had to start somewhere.

I think he was. But for sure he was severely physically and psychologically abused as a child. It manifested in major psychotic breaks where he would scream at the top of lungs for hours with obscenities and incoherent speech at God in the middle of his church.

Not really. Like OBL and ISIS and John Hagee and Franklin Graphan they simply take this stuff seriously. They BELIEVE it is infallible, eternal, without error or possibility of error. If you really believe that, then everything they do say write follows logically.
They are just practicing their faith. And the rest of are the victims.

I don't doubt their absolute sincerity in their faith. I was answering the question of where do they get the income to spend on countless trips to protest funerals.

And I was answering the "stain" comment. They are NOT a stain, they are NOT the lunatic fringe, they are NOT some whacked out few. They are doing exactly what their faith tells them to do. The difference between then the more "moderate" believers is sincerity and courage. They have it they others don't.
