Iran-Contra Figure to Lead Democracy Efforts Abroad
From News Services
Thursday, February 3, 2005; Page A25

Elliott Abrams, who pleaded guilty in 1991 to withholding information from Congress in the Iran-contra affair, was promoted to deputy national security adviser to President Bush.

Abrams, who previously was in charge of Middle East affairs, will be responsible for pushing Bush's strategy for advancing democracy.
An advocate for democracy that was guilty of subverting democracy?
Abrams's 1991 plea stemmed from the congressional inquiry into the Iran-contra affair during President Ronald Reagan's administration. On Oct. 10, 1986, Abrams, then a State Department employee, testified before the Senate Foreign Relations Committee that he did not know that Marine Lt. Col. Oliver North was directing illegal arms sales to Iran and diverting the proceeds to assist the Nicaraguan contras.

Abrams was pardoned by Bush's father, President George H.W. Bush.

His name surfaced last year as part of the investigation into who leaked the name of a CIA operative whose husband publicly disputed Bush administration claims that Iraq tried to buy uranium in Africa. White House spokesman Scott McClellan has said that Abrams denied responsibility.

Nothing new under the sun.

A while ago former Admiral Poindexter from same Iran-Contra affair was suggested by the Bush Admin to run TIA...

Poindexter was convicted on several felony counts of lying to Congress, obstruction of justice, conspiracy, and altering and destroying documents pertinent to the investigation. He avoided jail time due to a legal technicality.

And about those presidential pardons... Says enough about "Justice for all". :biglaugh:

:) Yes that is the solution! :tsk: Well if there wasn't that little quote that I don't remember word for word given to us by the past:
"For evil to suceed, nothing more is needed than good men doing absolutely noting." :biglaugh:

Very true yet all one could do about it was done in November.
It didn`t do any good.

Short of impeachment that is.

Its well known people who fail the most often succeed the most as you can never do anything if you are afraid to try. In the Marines I knew people who got kicked out because they were mediocre and never got in trouble, while others who had been court martialed got to stay in because they were exceptional. Interesting people are usually rewarded for it.

Impeachment by whom? There are no balances and checks anymore.
The founding fathers in their creativity could have never come up with the idea that the individualistic americans could or would be cought by ONE party...
Diversity was and is the key to keep <political> balance and not enable one party to go of in the extreme...
One party system come to mind. Might as well call it Republicana from now on. <Not?>

Its one but not republican or democrat. It is both and neither. The siphoning off of America's wealth and sovereignty is done with the smoke and mirrors of 'partisan politics' which never solves any of the issues it addresses. Its like watching wresting for news nuts.
