there is a book that I found in on the less frequented pages of the Belgian Hare Krishna webshop. According to this book, India is apparently one of the world's largest exporters of beef.

I initially thought this was some kind of fringe theory or conspiracy theory, but there actually seems to be some truth to this claim.

The "trick" seems to be that the meat exported comes from buffaloes, which is classified as "beef" by Americans, whereas in India buffalo seemingly does not fall under the "sacred cow" category.
