So lately the news feed on my Google home page seem ms intent on letting me know the possibility of Trump refusing to leave the White House if voted out. With plans from the Military to remove him by force if it comes to that.
And since I’m not American, I fear I don’t know if it’s just a meme, something legitimate that people fear or simply a publicity stunt.
Help clarify things my Americanstan RFers.
This is just some ribbing by the international news peeps, right?

I always hesitate to jump into anything political. Politics get so ugly here in the US, and these are my views and feelings on this situation only.

I am a bit frightened that Trump will refuse to back down should he lose the next election. I do not have enough legal know-how to say what will happen in this situation, and I do not know how it will be dealt with other than that there's a branch of military that's supposed to deal with this sort of thing.

As per my local newspaper, he has made some remarks that he may not accept the results if he doesn't win, but I don't think he's specified on exactly what it is he'll do. He has also suggested delaying the election.

I have heard that a president can stay in office longer if he has declared martial law. I am not certain if this is true or not(anyone else know?). I would not put this above him.

I don't see how he could remain in office if he was voted out, and I doubt the military would back him if he did. Maybe some in the military might do that, but I would imagine it would lead to a serious rift among the military leadership which could lead to a civil war.

On the other hand, if Trump manages to convince enough people that the election was fixed and/or the Democrats are corrupt, then it might be enough to throw a monkey wrench into the works. It's never happened before, but I suppose there's got to be a first time for everything.

Wishful thinking on the part of Dems.

    It's so funny.

I don't know if this means anything here, but former presidents are protected after leaving the white house-them, their wife, and children (till age 16 so read). I don't know if he can still stay in the white house until his time is up or not. Unless he is impeached (which I heard rumors of that), not sure he can be thrown out unless maybe he did something illegal or so have you.

The transfer of office doesn't require him to like it, agree with it, or to participate in the traditional pomp and ceremony. Once Biden is sworn in on 20th January 2021, Trump is no longer president.

Which is why he's attempting everything he can to sabotage the election process, from being willfully ignorant (or deliberately lying about) mail in ballots are somehow different and new to absentee ballots to monkeying around with the US Postal service. He's hoping he can cause enough havoc before hand but, as someone else noted, should Biden sweep the election it'll be accepted as a done deal whether he wants to throw a tantrum or not.

He wouldn't be POTUS thus upon his refusal to step down he is no longer Commander in Chief. It also doesn't help Trump that the Supreme Court has precedence for not getting cought up in that stuff (think of how fast they shut down the 2000 recount).

It's just politicking before the elections.

In times past "PEOPLE WILL DIE, if you don't pass this insurance legislation". "The whole of the COUNTRY will sink if you don't vote for me." "It's the rich peoples fault" "it's White Supremacy"

Of course... it happens until the election is over and then things settle down.

    Hope that helps

The leadership of the US military is far too proud of their allegiance to the nation and the Constitution to support Trump if he imagines he can just refuse to leave office. If he loses the election, that's it, it's over for him.

And no, he cannot delay the election. That power is granted in the Constitution ONLY to Congress, which long ago passed a law that says the election happens on the Tuesday following the first Monday in November, four years after the last election. Congress could change that, but I sincerely doubt they would, and the President is powerless to do anything about it.

In this case its likely to be a scare tactic. Why? Because people used the same tactic to frighten people when the last 4 presidents were in office. All of them left office peacefully as far as I know.

Also if the president refused to leave office we would all ignore them, and that would be that.

Veterans are already running for the hills from Trump. That's called integrity. Something Trump knows nothing about.

It would be quite entertaining if Trump did attempt to resist if he loses. I don't know why anyone would worry about this; he wouldn't have the power to pull it off. Perhaps his base will encircle the While House with their lift-kitted coalrollers, and then stumble out of them with a beer in one hand and a shotgun in the other, ready to defend their god-king's throne.

It’s called projection. The deranged Trump haters are projecting their own proclivity for extra legality onto President Trump who is law abiding.

Most people hate Trump. What's to like? You're arguing from the peanut gallery.

In this case I think you are right. I admit, I would love to see Trump physically thrown out and tossed on the curb like the garbage he is. But it is not going to happen like that.

    Nightmare speculative question.

What will happen if Trump claims he has won?

He will whine and cry like a toddler who can’t have another cookie.

But Biden will still be President.
