Texas towns vote to be 'sanctuary cities' for unborn, aiming to ban abortion

Well, this is a clever twist. I don't know if this is meant to actually outlaw abortion (which would need approval of the Supreme Court) or if it's just a way of slamming the concept of "sanctuary cities."

One can only hope that the city councils address the problem more thoroughly than just requiring pregnant women to travel.

Things like comprehensive sex ed and solid support for groups like Planned Parenthood would be both more effective and more humane.

"Spontaneous" abortions has nothing to do with this.

An old friend of mine got her tubes tied because, while they wanted a child or two, she kept having miscarriages. The stress of getting pregnant, and getting their hopes up then losing the baby, got to her.

Sanctuary cities are patently illegal, but since the ones that protect illegals get away with it, why not more ?

We have firearms sanctuary counties, where Sheriffs refuse to enforce unconstitutional state firearms laws, so infant sanctuary cities sound great to me.

We could have more. Like prostitution sanctuary cities, or vegan sanctuary cities, or secessionist sanctuary cities, oh what fun !

Pretty soon we'll have "sanctuary" cities where Trump supporters are not allowed in order to support psychological health, environmental care, truth, justice and the American way.

It's kind of a safe ordinance when you think about it. People will just go somewhere else making it nothing more than a political statement.

There's a way that a local government could be a "sanctuary city for the unborn" that's actually legal: provide such high-quality, low-cost services for pregnant people and newborns that people who might have wanted an abortion will voluntarily choose another option.

For instance, the government could subsidize medical care for pregnant people and newborns. Or they change the requirements for their business licenses that every company doing business in the city has to offer a full year of paid maternity leave.

I trust these "sanctuary cities" are doing these sorts of things to actually provide "sanctuary." They can't just be about making life more difficult for pregnant people, right? /sarcasm

Since prostitution is illegal, most prostitutes are victims of pimps as they are afraid of reporting the pimps for fear of being prosecuted themselves. This is a good reason to legalize prostitution, since its legalization would largely put an end to pimping.

There's a difference between governments - or their law enforcement agencies - setting higher and lower priorities for enforcement and a government actually breaking the law.

Yes, and sanctuary cities are breaking the law.

Yes, my sister in law and brother in law went through this elation, depression cycle four times. They decided it was not to be, and adopted a newborn.

That little girl, now 14, is my favorite niece.

My own mom nearly died from a tubal pregnancy. A surgical abortion saved her life, but made it clear that the big family they wanted wasn't going to happen the old fashioned way. So, they adopted me.
I was so wonderful that they adopted three more.

Do you really think effectiveness and humanity are the driving force behind those declarations?

    Of course not.
It's the egotism of Christian politicians.

Making life difficult for people unlikely to vote for them is rather theists stock in trade. Because Christians tend to be low information voters who will follow anybody who promises things they want to believe in.

Sanctuary cities nullify and obstruct the enforcement of federal law, a crime

Nullification was a factor in the civil war. Southern states simply ignored federal law, and hindered it's enforcement.

In the case of illegal aliens, they are encouraging the breaking of US law, by creating incentives and encouragement for that law breaking, a crime.

Statistically, their policy has proven to encourage crime, and thus making their citizens less safe. Failure to provide protection to their citizens, there primary duty.
