The Problem with New Age Syncretists i.e. the Spiritual but not Religious

The problem with New Age type of paths is not that they're syncretic or spiritual rather than conservatively religious.

Their main fault is that they have no well structured practices (lack of a proper spiritual cult) and that they (the new age type of people) are often allergic to spiritual leadership and prefer a consumeristic non-commited approach that is also lacking in social service to the suffering.

What studies have been undertaken to determine that new agers are lacking in social service to the suffering?
