Imagine that a cop is repeatedly caught lying &
assaulting civilians. His department covers it up.
Lying cops are supposed to be put on the Brady
List, which tracks those whose testimony can't be
trusted. Do governments do this? Sometimes yes,
but often no. When done, it often isn't right away,
so cops' perjury sends innocent people to
prison.
Sometimes cities, cops, & prosecutors will even
hide evidence of unreliable testimony. Phoenix
AZ is one such place. Jury awards need to become
far far bigger. Gutting their budgets with victim
compensation is the only way that government
will ever take corruption reform seriously.
In this case, a woman spent 2 years in prison
because of unreliable testimony. The cop
should be in prison. Instead, he's retired on
a generous pension. No one paid any price
for this evil except for the taxpayers.
