I thought the $10B cost was pretty funny too.
I'd expect it to be an order of magnitude higher.
And $25 per pound per launch....also optimistic.
Maintenance costs would be interesting to see,
since collisions with orbiting/falling objects could
impose catastrophic costs.
What material can you imagine that might work? I am thinking they need a bio-engineered vine or some equivalent that takes in energy and materials to heal itself.

I keep hearing about graphene (a kind of carbon).
But I don't know its properties.
Hell, I don't even know how to calculate the loads.
