So, what does one have to do to be permitted to have a signature?

You need a certain amount of posts, but no one seems to remember the amount.
The system will automatically allow you to have a signature when you meet three requirements:
- 14 days since registration
- 10 posts
- 20 frubals (reputation points)
We do this to help prevent spammers from posting signature spam. By the time a user has met all the requirements, it's a safe bet that they're a real person here for substantive discussion and not a troll or a spambot.

Bumping this up to ask if the rules about signature mentioned in this thread still apply today.
The software has been updated a lot since, but there may still be some rules like number of posts etc.

tbh, I've lost track. All I can suggest is that you try to create a signature, and if the system lets you it's probably OK.
If not, you might have to wait a cpl of weeks.
