So let's say the Shroud is genuine. In that case, shouldn't it be returned whence it was stolen?

Yes, if it's the shroud stolen from us it should be returned, but as we seem to be extremely unsure whether it is in fact, the Mandylion, I'd say it would be way down on the list. We're still waiting for the return of many more relics that were looted from us by the soldiers of the 4th Crusade and remain in the west: relics that we are sure of and are of great importance to us. Rome has returned the odd one in the past but it really is a tiny fraction of what was stolen.

I thought I should give credit to the website "Picture Tour with Dr. John De Salvo",
whose photos I posted here.

One thing I have always wondered about the Shroud. Look at the hair. Intead of being to the back of the head, like it should with a body laying down, it is around the head, like a body that is standing up. Another thing I just noticed, the upper legs aren't straight.

The article is entitled "Rethinking the Shroud objectively"

So what does the visually blended tonality of the image represent if not reflected light? With computer software we can plot the relative lighter and darker areas seen in the images and produce a three dimensional isometric drawing of the body. With computerized virtual reality we can view the body from different angles. We can see the slope of the nose, the recesses of the eye sockets and the shape of the torso. It seems that the image is a graphic representation of the distance between any part of the body and the cloth.

Spritually, no.

But from a physical statement, while a Divne Messenger is on earth, this is a silly statement! Having a human component as well as the divine one, He necessarily sleeps just like anyone else!

And even one of the earliest Protestant hymns, "Away in a Manger," attests to this fact!

Peace,

3D PROJECTION
green140.jpg

A 3D terrain map projection of the image color intensity. This is one of the most puzzling physical properties of the picture. Produced using a VP-8 image Analyzer.

3D OF THE FACE
bryce140.jpg

A 3D projection of the face of the Shroud of Turin. Produced using Bryce Software.

Shroud fibers with image color. The color is in a thin film that coats the outermost fibers. Chemically, it appears to be a melanoidin, the product of an amino/carbonyl reaction.
