Bernie Sanders Had Heart Attack, His Doctors Say as He Leaves Hospital
"Mr. Sanders, 78, had entered the hospital on Tuesday night after experiencing chest pain at a campaign event, and doctors had inserted two stents in a blocked artery, a relatively common procedure. But the campaign did not confirm that Mr. Sanders had had a heart attack until Friday, inviting questions about his condition, and his campaign’s transparency, as he remained off the campaign trail this week."
So we weren't told about Sanders' heart attack until after he had left the hospital. We were told earlier in the week that all he had was a "blocked artery" and some chest "discomfort".
Bernie Sanders hospitalized for blocked artery, campaign events canceled
"During a campaign event yesterday evening, Sen. Sanders experienced some chest discomfort. Following medical evaluation and testing he was found to have a blockage in one artery and two stents were successfully inserted," said Sanders’ senior adviser Jeff Weaver on Wednesday in a statement.
Gotta say, this feels really slimy to me. The Sanders campaign had to have known the full extent of the medical emergency almost as soon as he was admitted to the hospital and examined. Yet, they refused to reveal the full extent of Sanders' condition until a Friday night when nobody's watching the news. I think this will cripple the Sanders campaign twofold. On the one hand, we all know Sanders is old, and having a heart attack and being easily the oldest man ever elected president (should he win) is going to make a lot of people question whether or not he can even finish out his first term. On the other hand, this lack of transparency about critical information relating to Sanders' health has to be a big turn-off to a lot of people.
