Rudram in the Time of Corona

Spiritual people believe that mental tendencies, benevolent or malevolent, precede happenings of the material plane. Testosterone driven hatred-filled atmosphere all around us of the recent few years, in my opinion, has been a fertile ground for attracting the wrath of Ishwara.

Shiva is the all-seeing consciousness upon which the dream universes appear and disappear. Subsequently, it is also the knower and experiencer of the experiences through the individual mind-senses. Rudra-Shiva saves the universe by consuming the deadly poison Halahala that we generate by our activities. And, also, the wrath proceeding from Rudra-Shiva destroys the Yagya-s of the Daksha brahmA, embodying the divisive, ego-driven rulers, especially those who ignore the presence of Shiva in all.

Śrī Rudram, also known as Śrī Rudrapraśnaḥ, is a hymn offered to the all-pervading Brahman, designated as Rudra-Śiva, present as auspicious benign forms as well as malevolent terrible forms. The Rudram occurs in the Taittirīya Saṁhitā of the Kṛṣṇa Yajurveda in the 4th kāṇda (chapter), 5th praśna.

The Brāhmaṇa text states “Rudra is verily this fire. He has two forms; one terrible, the other auspicious. If a man does sacrifice to Him by chanting the Rudram, that man pacifies the terrible form”. Chanting or listening to the Sri Rudram purifies the unconscious part of our mind where the root cause of problems resides.

I am linking a recital of the Rudram for anyone who may be interested to chant or listen.
