Hadn't seen or heard much of this case. It fits with @Revoltingest thread concerning Chicago police and Laquan Mcdonald. But thought this youth deserved his own thread as a search of his name turned up nothing on RF even a year after the incident.

The video would suggest the Chicago Police Department has not been forthcoming with the truth. As someone who once lived in the Chicago area, and who worked in Chicago proper, I find it credible that the CPD would prove untrustworthy.

For me the video shows yet another example of how unprepared and incapable many officers are. I agree that police are less than forthcoming with information and will manipulate, distort, and fabricate when they screw up. This fact should not be too surprising: police are just a just a sampling of the general population. Integrity is severely wanting in our society today.

I think you're right that the police show no more integrity than so many others these days, but they are in a position of public trust, and I do not believe their lack of integrity is justified by "everyone does it". I think there should be tougher penalties for a police officer caught lying than for, say, a plumber caught lying. I'd want to see a minimum of five years in prison.

I do not intend to justify the lack of integrity, only to say that it is not surprising.

They need to find out if the officer had a history of PTSD and military service. That's a deadly mix for law enforcement. This sergeant could have just mentally snapped.
