Religious Faith is...

Why faith and not trust?
Why devotion and not service?
Why grace and not charity?

Probably for the same reason terror isn't exactly fear. They are level of gradient. Faith and trust are pretty much the same thing, but faith is like A LOT of trust. The same goes for the two others. Trust leaves room for a little bit of doubt and prudence, there is the unspoken acknowledgement that it could be broken. Faith does not make this unspoken assumption and leaves no room for prudence. That's why some faithful will say that those who loose didn't have true faith to explain this turn of event. They must deny that such a thing is even a possibility for them. Faith is trust beyond all reason and doubts.

Sorry, I know the definition of faith has be discussed many times.

Just trying for myself to have a concise understanding. How I would define religious faith is,

Something hoped for which can't be verified.

Right? Wrong? Is there something more to religious faith?
Faith is when you realize something is wrong, you suspend believing in what is unnecessary, you look for your new concept, and you discover a better explanation.

Worldly faith = I study and work hard, and I have faith to become worldly happy

Spiritual faith = I study and work hard, and I have faith to become spiritually happy

Both can be easily verified after hard work is done

I think in the Bible faith means person is faithful/loyal to God. It is not same as believing in God, but about trusting to God and obeying Him.

Something which tells you why you are here.

That's what it traditionally is, principally, I think. The practices and beliefs in a religion revolve around it telling you what you are doing here

What is the difference between being "spiritual" happy and just being happy?

as long as the hope and wishful thinking are well played.....ok

I refrain the dogmatic approach

but I do have expectations....
a Greater Hierarchy
a greater scheme of discipline
and the peace of heaven is guarded

if there is hope....
then I will be allowed in the Door
and retrained
the territory ...the language.... and the play of life

but I might have to sneak in the window
and yeah.....I will get caught
then I hope for mercy

I find myself preferring no expectations, that way I never have to worry about being disappointed.

One day I met a man who simply said to me that he had good news for me and read me Ecclesiastes 1:4 B.
In School and Church I was taught Earth will be destroyed, but the Bible teaches Earth abides forever.
I knew then I wanted more information about the Bible teaching that Earth will abide forever.
School / Science doesn't have all the answers, and the Churches of Christendom don't even know the Bible.
I see nothing wrong with Earth, but I do see the wrong the wicked commit.
So, to read that those ruining the Earth will be brought to ruin is a comfort to me - Revelation 11:18 B.
Kind of like if you have a beautiful house and it became infested with rats you would Not destroy your house but rather bring in an exterminator to rid your beautiful house of those destructive rats.
Bible teaches that Jesus is the one who will rid the Earth of rat-like wicked people, and then the rest of us can enjoy a beautiful paradisical Earth forever and ever.

So your faith is in a divine justice?

I don't think there's more to religious faith. I don't think it varies from the faith that anyone holds.

That's my atheist view. Faith means faith.

Many seem to have differing views about what faith. Some are familiar to me, others, never considered.
As a Christian, I was told to have faith. Never thought at the time to ask what it was.

It's trust. "I trust god will help me even though I can't prove it scientifically."

"I put faith/trust in god because I know he will do everything for me."

"I can't do anything on my own but through faith/trust alone in god."

I trust/have faith in myself. Often probably not having good reason to do so. Wherever, whatever I find myself in, I trust I will find my way through it.

Is this the same kind of faith?

I think you answered it in your reply below

I find myself preferring no expectations, that way I never have to worry about being disappointed.
IMO Spiritual "happiness" has to do with wisdom and insight to stay serene because you really know that "all is vanity", so ever changing.

"No expectations" is a good Spiritual virtue or wisdom. You can have expectations, but at least don't be attached when things go different.

So, I believe one can be Spiritual both with and without believing in God. It all has to do with transformation of attachment to Ego (which only drains energy).

So when I say worldly, I mean using the Ego to accomplish things. So Ego is not bad, it can be helpful.

When I say Spiritual, I mean "Stay detached from the above expected results". That way you become equal minded, whatever happens. And you become serene, peaceful mind and finally this "thought stream" stops. This so called "no thought state" is the ultimate peace, so real happiness. Seems simple "stop your thoughts", but takes a life long struggle to accomplish this.

Material happiness comes from acquiring
Spiritual happiness comes from detachment

Material is about "doing things"
Spiritual is about "how doing things" (introspection)

This is just my view. I hope this clarifies what I meant by "Spiritual happy". Others define "Spiritual happy" different. Spirituality is IMO your own inner Quest. It can be with or without Religion or God.

but....but...

even if you DID believe.....you could be blindsided

note...book of Job

if Job had a clue....and apparently not
he simply-minded
the Lord gives and the Lord takes away

OR

he knew it was the devil doing serious harm
and refused to acknowledge the hurt
as if the devil was not great enough to sway Job's devotion

but either way
you would be willing to enter the next life

with your guard down?

Yes. Faith isn't a religious word. I have faith I will find my way through it. If I didn't know christianity, I'd know what you mean by context or synonym and move on.

Other than the word literally being in the Bible, I'm not sure why it's an issue other than personal preference.

So your faith is in a divine justice?

In Scripture, divine justice was carried out ' hard and swift ' in Noah's Day, Sodom and Gomorrah and in the year 70 when the Roman armies destroyed un-faithful Jerusalem.
So, with that pattern in mind, then the end of today's wickedness will also come ' hard and swift '.
As God used the political/military to carry out His justice in the year 70, so too God will once again use the political/military to carry out His justice against today's corrupted religion. Starting with corrupted Christendom.

I find we can have faith (trust / confidence) in a well-known friend who always keeps his word.
In Scripture I find friend God keeps His word.
His word that Scripture is a light ( enlightens ) for us over trial and error.
We reap what we sow, and if we sow with a view to spiritual (scriptural ) things we fare quite well.

I find some people think of faith as credulity ( blind faith ).
Some teach to have faith when they really mean: don't question or don't ask questions.
We don't as of yet see the fulfillment of Revelation 22:2 that there will be ' healing ' for earth's nations.
By faith, with the mind's eye when we read verse 2 we can visualize healing or health existing on Earth.
For now 'faith' (confidence/trust), that healing and health is coming on Earth as described in Isaiah 35th chapter.

When we have confidence in Scripture then we can be spiritually happy.
Happy to cultivate the fruitage of God's spirit as listed at Galatians 5:22-23.
This is the opposite of being happy to practice the works of the flesh as listed at Galatians 5:19-21.

I don't think this is a very good definition. It makes out the person of faith to be a total idiot. Most people who accept religious claims are not idiots.

I think faith assumes the beliefs you are considering are justified and worthy of belief, this, based on the authority and reputation etc of those teaching the message. So you exercise faith when you believe it in such a manner that it generates action. You don't see complete evidence for the claims (as you would in experimental science), and so there is some probability that the claims are not true. But you chose to bridge this gap (with faith), and believe them anyway. That is what faith is.

We all do this kind of thing to some extent. Nothing can be proved 100%. To the extent we believe anything at all, this is an example of the same human impulse as faith is.
