Why is the Queen universally loved ... even by anti Royals.?
Even if you disagree with the statement she is more popular than politicians
Any comments? especially from the Commonwealth. Should we make her happy and lobby for Prince Charles to be the next Head of the Commonwealth?

How much is being spent pn this coming weekend... Millions of pounds.

Money that could be used to help the needy, improve mental health services, pay some of the promised brexit £350 million to the NHS. But no, its going to be blown on a party.

Personally i think the royal family are a waste of taxpayers money and this jubilee is a fine example.

Yes I'm a brit, im anti royal and no, i don't love them

With the Platinum Jubilee this week, millions are gearing up for a celebration of all things British up and down the country. But while people are looking forward to historic festivities to mark the Queen's 70 years on the throne, a new survey has shown that a minority of Brits would actually class the monarchy as the best thing about the country. YouGov found that the NHS and the British countryside are much more popular than the royals who had only 9% support among young people. A hit across the generations, some 62% of respondents said the NHS is among the best things about Britain, while 61% voted for the rolling hills of the great British outdoors. Some 37% say that Britain's history and shared national pride are among the best things about the country today. And despite the Platinum Jubilee rousing Union Jacks across the country, just 34% say the monarchy and the Royal Family are among the greatest things about the UK. Respondents were deeply divided across generations, with half of those aged 65 and over (51%) saying it is among the best things about Britain, but only 9% of those aged 18 to 24 saying the same.

The monarchy is gradually becoming less popular it seems, and include this old fogey in with the young as to not wanting any monarchy, but the Queen has done a good job of being the head of our monarchy, so presumably this is why she is so loved.

After the downfall of the Russian Tsar, English royalty worked really hard to support the people of England.
They didn't want the same to happen to them.

They do a lot of good, a lot of charity work to maintain that good will.
The Queen has done more for charity than any other monarch in history.

I live in the UK and I can't stand the royals. I am dreading this weekend.
Liz 2 should be the last.

I suppose the comparison would be what percentage of folk in parliamentary republics find their elected, ceremonial presidency one of the best things about the country.

I'm guessing that's pretty close to zero... :D

Not sure that is any defence of hereditary passing on of any leadership role as being legitimate - unless perhaps we engineer them so as to be much more perfect leaders than all the rest.

This may be a British-centric statement.

Barbados just dumped the monarchy and other Caribbean countries are poised to follow suit.

And in Canada, apparently only 58% of Canadians "would feel some sadness when [the Queen] dies" - hardly universal love.

(And most Canadians support ditching the monarchy when the Queen dies)

Any comments? especially from the Commonwealth. Should we make her happy and lobby for Prince Charles to be the next Head of the Commonwealth?
Seems like Prince Charles's only chance at popularity is being endorsed by Elizabeth.

Living on the other side of the pond, I have a great admiration for Queen Elizabeth. Looking forward to the upcoming Jubilee. I understand the desire to end the monarchy, maybe now is the time, before Charles is crowned, as Protocall, nostalgia seems to be the only reason to continue it.

I think it still has enough support so as for any referendum on such to come out for the monarchy, but the level might depend upon who is likely to take over from the Queen. William and Kate possibly being somewhat more liked than Charles and Camilla.

I fully respect those fierce republicans who are opposed to a monarchy. However note:
I am not saying those who oppose the celebrations are champagne socialists. However many pubs and restaurants are in danger of going bust. For many people on low wages like me. We need this jubilee to be a success. Peoples jobs depend on it.
Example Ghana was the first country to be independent. HRH danced a foxtrot with Nkrumah. The message was clear after colonial rule a new era for fairness and racial justice was being ushers in. Note USA still had a terrible record. Margaret Thatcher opposed sanctions was wary of Mandela and ambivalent of Rhodesia. The palace was always firmly in favour of equal rights for everyone in Africa.
At least one ex American president/politician is incapable of constructing a coherent sentence of more than a few words and frankly to the world is an idiot. At least the Queen always sounds sensible and talks common sense.

That's a good question. What other person could use £12m of taxpayer money paying off her rapist son's victim and not be a figure of hate?
