Prayer serves no purpose.

I kind of regard prayer like blowing in the NES cart. Sure, it may not be effective, and in some cases mightdo more harm than good, but we do it anyway at the very least it's for good luck.

The Bible tells us: “Draw close to God, and he will draw close to you.” (James 4:8) One of the principal ways to draw close to God is through prayer. we should not underestimate its value! The Bible makes this comforting promise: “Jehovah is near to those that are broken at heart; and those who are crushed in spirit he saves.”Think about this. many have found it helpful to talk about their feelings with a trusted friend. Would it not be even more helpful to pour out your feelings to the God who promises to comfort our hearts? even if God knows everything about us,is it not better to talk personally to him and show that we rely on him and want his friendly guidance?

Nope. I prefer to talk with someone who can talk back. Besides, god already knows how you feel and how you will feel. It already knows about the divorce you've just had, or the breakup, or the car crash. It allowed those things to happen (according to christian mythology in that everything happens according to its will).

So why draw comfort in being able to talk to it about this or that when it allowed this or that to happen in the first place? It's vicarious nonsense.

Praying for others and praying for yourself is only one form of prayer. By praying in this way God allows us to be part of His plan for salvation for humanity. We have examples of this in the bible. When Jesus prays to His Father the night before His crucifixition. He prays if it is possible take this cup from me, but not my will but your will be done. In the prayer, he makes his request, but at the same time he unites His Will as a man to Hs Fathers will. He preemptively turns His crucifixition into a Holy sacrifice to save us all. Jesus in his many miracles healed those who asked to be healed. In the same way for our souls to be saved and for us to heal we have to ask for it. Not because God couldnt do it himself but because God wants us to be a part of his redemptive plan. When Jesus raised Lazurus from the dead He asked someone to roll away the stone. Dont you think Jesus could have done that himself if he was able to raise someone from the dead? He wanted us to be a part of it, thats why He created us, that is why we pray. Those that live in the mythology that none of the above ever happened should still be able to follow the logic of why christians pray.
