I’ve been experiencing an intense preoccupation with the United States of America and even feeling intense love and irritation for a nation I’ve never even lived in. Funny thing that.
Last night I attended a Baha’i meeting but couldn’t stop thinking about America. At the end of our meeting one of my friends recited a prayer for America and it really helped calm my troubled spirit.
Here’s the prayer:
O Thou kind Lord! This gathering is turning to Thee. These hearts are radiant with Thy love. These minds and spirits are exhilarated by the message of Thy glad tidings. O God! Let this American democracy become glorious in spiritual degrees, even as it has aspired to material degrees, and render this just government victorious. Confirm this revered nation to upraise the standard of the oneness of humanity, to promulgate the Most Great Peace, to become thereby most glorious and praiseworthy among all the nations of the world. O God! This American nation is worthy of Thy favors and is deserving of Thy mercy. Make it precious and near to Thee through Thy bounty and bestowal.
I see it was published in the Huffington Post.

The prayer was said by ‘Abdu’l-Bahá in Chicago 1912 long before Woodrow Wilson’s proposal for the League of Nations and later the United Nations came to pass. Much has changed for the better in the last 108 years of course but a little room for improvement too.
So I’ve been thinking about crisis being an opportunity for the USA to rise to even greater heights. Anyway, I just wanted to post because America, like Georgia, is always on my mind.
How do you see America’s spiritual capacity?
Btw, this is in the Interfaith Discussion section. No debating and definitely no decisive politics.
