Police Unions’ Latest Grievance: Vaccine Mandates

And yet police organizations are against something that would prevent these deaths. Bizzare.
Sadly, we will probably continue to give cops dying from Covid the same elaborate hero-style funerals that officers who are shot get. Instead, they should be stripped of their pensions.

Police Unions’ Latest Grievance: Vaccine Mandates
We’ve heard this story before, when police said criminal justice reform would lead to mass resignations.
In September, the State Police Association of Massachusetts, or SPAM, sued the state over Governor Charlie Baker’s vaccine mandate. The police union argued that it would cause state troopers “irreparable harm” to be forced to be vaccinated against a deadly virus or be fired if they declined. When that lawsuit failed, SPAM president Michael Cherven threatened that the mandate would have an immediate impact on his workforce. “To date, dozens of troopers have already submitted their resignation paperwork,” he claimed, adding that it would decimate what he described as an “already critically short-staffed” department. The warning was clear—make us get the Covid-19 vaccine, and you’ll be sorry.

MIAMI – COVID-19 has been the number one killer of law enforcement officers in 2020 and 2021 to date, according to the Officer Down Memorial Page, which tracks line-of-duty deaths.
In South Florida alone, five officers were recently lost in just one week.
“It is the most important officer safety issue of our lifetime,” said Miami Police Assistant Chief Armando Aguilar, who is among the leadership pushing for police to get vaccinated.
The National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund says they are witnessing a continued increase in COVID deaths with more and more cases coming in every day. The organization says more officers are lost to COVID in the line of duty than any other cause combined, including gunfire.
The National Fraternal Order of Police is encouraging members to get vaccinated, as infectious disease experts say officers are at a clear risk with the delta variant continues coursing through our communities.
