been infected.....and wasn't told the exact item

doctors do that
you present yourself
they look at your condition
they GUESS the ailment
and then hand you a bottle of pills

the draw back on this routine...….
the antibiotics will almost wipe your slate clean
and unfortunately
your gut needs a BALANCE of living things...….to keep you living

and I've been posting here of late this one thing quite a bit
MOST of what you see in the mirror is NOT...….you

take away the water and you get a pile of bacteria and viruses
sort out the stuff that is not you.....
and the SMALLER portion left over IS …...you

That's right
there are more things living in your body......than you are living in your body

you are a complex bus ride for more things …...NOT.....you

and antibiotics should be a last resort
if the little bugger becomes immune
and you kill off the other stuff that might have helped you

you're screwed

Oh, so it looks like you are fine with using antibiotics even if it gets into the way of nature sorting out the weak....

and the last occasion when handed the prescription......

I kept the pills

didn't take them

I'm waiting to see if the event comes about
infected wound
ailment
whatever
and the trip to the ER might be …..not an option

besides.....antibiotics are not for viruses
vaccine would be the word

But you went ahead and had them prescribed to you.
I am not talking about viruses.
I am talking about logical consistency.

Nope. Your biome outnumber your own cells by about 1.3 to 1
(Human microbiome - Wikipedia) but they are much smaller than human cells, so by weight you are much much more than your biome. (Here's How Many Cells in Your Body Aren't Actually Human)

That is right. Antibiotics are way overprescribed. But doctors are more and more becoming aware of the problem. Just tell yours you only want them as a last resort and he'll tell you if you have a last resort illness.

1.3:1 ratio - 39 trillion microbial cells to 30 trillion cells

hmmmm….looked at the article you offered

and the stuff....NOT …..human
outnumbers the stuff.....human

Bad idea. Antibiotics have a shelf life (like many drugs). Using deteriorated Antibiotics, using them other then prescribed (especially not fully) or using them carelessly leads to antibiotic resistance.

Exactly. And, as has been done in the past, just trying antibiotics and finding out it was a virus is also not a smart move. Doctors should make sure they deal with bacteria before prescribing antibiotics.

as I wrote - outnumber - but not outweigh. Your stuff is much heavier.

I'm still hoping that they can come up with a vaccine against stupidity. If not, then I'll be happy if they can just come with a vaccine against coronavirus.

I think the stupidity vaccine is a bit to high a goal, but the Covid one I hope come soon
