Now that the Olympics are Over...

What are your impressions of the Olympics now that they have concluded?

Right from the outset, it looks as if the potential boycotts going in had little effect. If anything, they might have piqued interest in the Olympics (ironically) due to the excess of media coverage they were getting.

The Opening Ceremonies were beautiful, as were the closing ceremonies. The London 2012 Handover performance was a dissapointment though: a politically correct, technicolor, multicult post-modern dance routine. I can't say it didn't represent London though.

I didn't see the opening ceremony but the closing ceremony was AMAZING...it was so gorgeous...all that light, sound and movement!!

I LOVE the Olympics in general. This particular one was just special to me for some reason. I got really into it and I was so proud of the U.S. I really don't like or respect a lot of things about my country right now, so I kind of felt weird being so proud. But I realized that it's ok to be proud of our athletes and how hard they've worked. It's so inspiring and since I'm a sap I got teary-eyed a lot hahaha.

I loved seeing Misty May & Kerri, Usain Bolt, MICHAEL PHELPS!, the men's beach volleyball (I forget their names), Nastia Liukin & Shawn Johnson, Jason Lezak, the U.S. men's indoor volleyball was truly amazing to watch...I almost had to turn off my TV at some points because I couldn't stand how close the matches were! The marathon that led into the Bird's Nest...and just seeing the stories of how some of the athletes got there was so bittersweet/inspirational/awesome!

Yay, can't wait til London!! I actually wanna try to be over there when the Olympics are goin' on.

I didn't see all of it, but I remember I was watching the balance beam thing, and one girl totally did better than the other, but the one who didn't do as well won, and the one who did the best got silver. I thought that wasn't fair.

Yeah the fake fireworks, fake singing, fake black-faced minorities, age scandals, oppression of dissidents, oppression of Tibet, murders, military police occupying Beijing, not to mention commercialism and nationalism....yeah sure the Olympics were great this time, and China doesn't need to get the heck out of Tibet because things are just fine there.:sarcastic
Oh and the 2012 part was the BEST part of the whole thing. Seriously anyone who thinks that it was bad needs to get educated. It was a much needed breath of fresh multiculturalism after the two weeks of state glorification passing itself off as an Olympics. The British performance was both diverse, emotional and full of feeling that express what the Olympics should truly be about: liberalism, internationalism, and tolerance.

The Olympics should be about liberalism? ***?

And internationalism? The Olympics is one of the main non-political (+/-) events that endorses petty nationalism. It's reactionary as hell.
