As for the paper, it was very interesting (and the references in it are useful for further reading/to get up to speed on the issue). I agree with what @Polymath257 said; if the results hold up then this will be a very important result, as it suggests that things are not as 'simple' as we had thought.
edit: but I am not sure I follow your takeaway from this research...
I spoke with a friend of mine who is an astrophysicist. Evidently this paper has taken the astrophysical community by storm and there is a LOT of work being done right now about what it all means.
