New York Times Apologizes for Anti-Semitic Cartoon Aimed at Trump and Netanyahu

Stanyon

WWMRD?
Amazing how the same News organization that compared Donald Trump to Adolph Hitler is now using anti-semitic cartoons to attack him and Netanyahu over good relations. It seems that Trump isn't the one actively "emboldening White Supremacists" it's the New York Times.Wonder if they will call it what it is "dog whistle" journalism. What's next- making a cartoon of Candace Owens in blackface or as Aunt Jemima or did they already do that?

This is typical for American political cartoons. Nothing anti-Semitic about it. Criticising Israel does not mean you hate Jews.

Any sensible person will backpedal the moment that anyone says they are anti semitic, true or not.

Israel is in an amazingly perilous situation, so I can understand Netanyahu schmoozing with anyone who will listen. It is a sad commentary on humanity that some sort of agreement has not been reached in Israel. Geeze, America could have given them North Dakota instead of stealing what the Palestinians viewed as their land. Not even all the Jews agree that the land is still theirs.

Apparently Netanyahu has some serious accusations against him from his enemies.?

One wonders why the selected a Dachshund to portray the Jewish part of their cartoon. Dachshunds are an old established breed from Germany.

A Jew selling themselves out to Germans? Or a Germanic Jew “traitor.”?
Or just lack of basic research.

"Jews as dogs" is an old, and offensive trope in cartoons. Would we look at "blacks as apes" imagery and say "the cartoon is apt"?

"x as dogs or [insert animal here]" is an old trope in American political cartoons. You are reading too much into this.

In your opinion. So do you allow other minorities to decide whether something is bigoted against them, or do you only claim the right to decide things aren’t anti-Semitic for Jews?

It's a fact. Zionists/the Israeli gov't. and Jews are not the same thing, just like patriots/the US gov't. and Americans are not the same thing. Just because you belong to a specific group does not mean you get to decide whether people can criticise you for being a bigoted jingo, which is exactly what Zionists are.

I think that trying to tell the group that has been historically equated with dogs that it is reading too much to point out that historical fact is a way of trying to force your blinders onto that group. Would you tell blacks that they are reading too much into it if they were upset that were drawn as monkeys? Some images call forth more than just the trope you know and that doesn't make the reference (outside of your area of sensitivity) any less valid.

Bigotry is OK as long as it's directed at deserving people, eh.
