Your post included the following:
"The poster you were responding to doesn't think you addressed their point either, by the way."

So, clearly not.
The poster confirmed that you didn't address their point in the very same public forum in which I pointed it out.

Lots of people have lived in the metaphorical closet throughout history and to this very day.

Obviously a literal closet wasn't being referred to in that post.

They're welcome to all areas of the property. The attic, the crawlspace, the garage, the doghouse, etc.
But seriously, they're in society already. That's not being in any closet in any metaphorical sense. What these people actually want is to be seen as something special to be celebrated. That's far more than being "seen".

It's the opposite of parading naked out in the street to show "pride".
Therefore, LGTB people are not in any closet.
I've never heard of atheists parading around naked to show pride. I've also never personally met any queers who do that, and I live in California.

Ah, the "Land of Fruits and Nuts". :)
The weird thing is, truly a highlight of my life, I need to be around my friends in Indiana to nit be the nut.. But here I am most definitely the crazy one, I am the weird and strange one, and that's including being compared to my Satanist Juggalette friend here.

Why wouldn't they have the ability, OR the choice?

When I was a teenager, my father threatened that if I came out as gay he would immediately take me to a psychologist. He was vocally homophobic. There was no way I would be openly gay.

So, family estrangement is one. Now, I was not physically afraid of my dad. I was concerned about being cast out of the family and the emotional repercussions. For many, there is the danger of worse abuse.

A bit of a personal question: Say you had a gay or transgender child. Would they feel comfortable opening up about it with you? Or would they stay "in the closet"?
