what if we changed to to right of association and limit its practice to events only. This would protect individuals in sales, occupation, and housing. It als can cut both ways

I'm perfectly fine with acknowleding "freedom of religion" as nothing more than one particular case of freedom of speech, freedom of association, freedom of belier and conscience, etc.
I can't think of a single aspect of freedom of religion that we shouldn't also be granting in non-religious contexts.
We need a new approach that makes it clear religious rights will not infringe upon the rights and liberties of others. Such as, gay marriages infringe on no ones rights, but insisting they be banned--especially on religious grounds--is infringing upon the rights of others. Go spew your hatred, venom, and filth from the pulpit, but keep it away from legislation.
Freedom of the press often takes a beating, legit peaceful protests and assemblies being brushed aside for violent ones, and they tend to make way too many laws respecting the establishment of religion (all so religion can abuse minorities).
So what countries you looking at?
