Need Anime Recommendation - Calling All Anime Fans

Poeticus

Howdy!

Can someone please recommend an
anime (either movie/TV show) that is
a mixture of Berzerk (movies 1 and 2;
3rd one was way too insane and way
too disturbing), Wicked City, Darker
Than Black, Basilisk, Nausicaa, with a
hint of Princess Mononoke, Biohunter,
Shigurui, and...did I mention Berzerk? :p

Please help! :help:

En'me

- 5 centimeters per second
- Death Note (probably watched it but eh, maybe not)
- Durarara
- Mirai Nikki
- Elfen Leid
- Deadman Wonderland

I didn't really watch much of what you posted so I might be way off, but maybe one of these can scratch that itch.

Hey En'me! I've heard of Elfen Lied,
but couldn't get past the first two
episodes; and, the starting of the first
episode was unnecessarily gory, kind
of like the second-half of Berserk 3.
I shall look up the other ones; I wish
the mall nearby still had a Suncoast. :(

Ah! Just in time! En'me gave similar
recommendations. I have looked up
Deadman Wonderland for the mean
time. It has an interesting plot line.
I'll definitely give that a try.

Any other recommendations, boss?
...please keep them coming. :p

Black Lagoon and Ergo Proxy although I haven't finished watching either. Ergo proxy is less violent and more what the @#! is going on, as far as I can tell so far. Black Lagoon looks like violence but not as gory as berserk

Also if you're looking for a particular genre outside action then I can give more recommendations :p

What I love about the first two
Berserk movies (yes I know, the
TV series was better, I swear
I'll watch them in the future :p)
is the character development of
Guts. The starting scene from the
first movie is mind-blowing! It had
a wonderful momentum - then
it went downhill in the second part
of the third movie. And, I've heard
of Black Lagoon - but I'll have to
get through Deadman Wonderland
first (almost done with Darker
Than Black). :p

Hey, if you want something poetic, try Summer Wars.

For light weirdness with some adventure, Paranoia Agent.

For exciting existential drama, Bokurano is king.

Thanks Luis! I'll jot
those three down for
future reference.

And...

How about stuff like
Perfect Blue? Plus, I
can't get this song
out of my head:

Based on the responses to the OP (I haven't seen any of the anime in the OP itself), I would recommend Psycho-Pass. Think Minority Report mixed with Demolition Man and existential philosophy.

Perfect Blue is a great anime movie. If you like the weird trippy anime, I wholeheartedly recommend Paprika. That's a god damn great movie and apparently an influence in the creation of Inception.

There was another weird anime movie that was similar to perfect blue in that it was trippy, it's called Mind Game. Very weird and cool animation styles throughout the movie.

Also, if you haven't seen the Ghost in the Shell movie, that's also existential and actiony.

Akira and GITS series are wonderful movies.
They pretty much ensured the validity of the
anime genre, IMHO - going above and far
beyond that which was necessary. There is a
wonderful discount for Akira on iTunes, BTW,
for the Sub-version, while the Dubbed
one is more expensive, ironically.

I enjoyed Paprika but not as much as Millennium
Actress, while both films have an amazing
soundtrack, to surely mention. I shall definitely
jot down Psycho-Pass and Mind Game; thanks
for your help, friends. If you have any other
recommendations, please feel free to post them.

For anime shows, I enjoyed Cowboy Bebop, Samurai Champloo, FLCL, Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood, and Code Geass.

For anime movies, I like Hiayao Miyazaki films, plus the Cowboy Bebop movie, and Summer Wars.

Samurai Champloo and Cowboy Bebop are great. I still haven't watched all of Cowboy Bebop though.

It's not really gory or gritty, but Trigun is worth mentioning too just because it's awesome. Vashu da Stampedu!
