More likely they were just trying to humiliate the captured jihadis.

Why would anyone put on lipstick with a beard as an actual disguise?

Me thinks it didn't happen (as presented, anyways). Muslim women in the area, especially under ISIS control, wouldn't be dressed like that and he didn't shave his beard?

Shaving his beard could get him into even more trouble, so the disguise is probably a compromise. He's hoping nobody looks too closely.
