Civil servants believe they can do what they like without suffering any consequences for their actions or inactions as the case may be.

Having seen him on the BBC and the way he is squealing I can only assume that he got his job through nepotism.

If he is an example of the calibre of the people that have been negotiating with the EU for the past three or more years, no wonder they have until recently walked all over us.

No 10 is briefing against him, but more have come out to back his claims. If you are in the right you don't offer a monetary settlement, you fight it out.
The attempts at smearing by Johnson and his lackeys is very telling. The Tory press' attempts at smearing and distraction is appalling. Patel's absence is expected but also telling.

He is playing the victim card, as is the norm these days.

We will have to see who is actually running the country, the elected officials or the faceless bureaucrats.

If he is such a bad manager, why didn't they just dismiss him ?

It's virtually impossible to dismiss a civil servant, unless they are actually criminal. The usual tactic is to move them to another department.
