Is Scientology really that bad?

It gets quite a lot of criticism, especially recently, since Leah Remini has been talking about it lately and receiving a lot of attention for it.

Why do people not like Scientology? Is it really as bad as people make it out to be?

It's because Scientology isn't a real religion. It's a scam. Those at the top are there only to take money from naive people at the bottom. They teach wild absurd nonsense that they themselves don't believe, things that suggestable poor schmucks just suck in because they are needy.

Watch the South Park episode on Scientology. South Park has done spoofs on every religion, making up absurd stuff about each of them. However, they didn't need to make up anything about Scientology in order to make it ridiculous. They simply ran a caption at the bottom stating that this was no joke, that this was what Scientology actually teaches.

It's because Scientology isn't a real religion.

In fact it isn't a religion at all, never was. It's a pseudo-psychological self-help system (or course) based around hypnotism. It's an organisation.
The "Church" and OT3 stuff is sugarcoating to get away from the controversy he was getting in the world of Science and Psychology because he tried to pass off Dianetics as legitimate Science.
Scientologists aren't supposed to believe in Xenu in any sense, either, it's an allegory Hubbard wrote to create his "original sin" of the human condition, Body Thetans and the like

Scientology can be pretty much modeled as a mafia style organization responsible for countless break-ins abductions and kidnappings, even deaths like that involving McPherson.

Its "earnings" I'm sure had a fair percentage kicked up to Hubbert and presently McCavage.
