Is premarital sex a sin? I don't believe so. The Bible condemns sexual immorality but not premarital sex. Some have argued that the Bible condemns fornication which is sex between unmarried persons. However, modern Bible translations translate fornication as sexual immorality. Is premarital sex really a sin? I don't and can't believe so. What do you believe?

Its not a sin so as long as there is love and not lust. Where there is lust bad things happen, its where there is love so when something bad happens you will be there for them and that is where it really matters.

I belive pre-marital sex is fornication and is a sin. That's the problem with modern Bible translations, the translators change the translation to suit their interpretation.

I don't know if it's considered a sin, but if God is love above all things, then I think two people having sex out of wedlock in love would not be frowned upon.

If you *really* want to know what "God" thinks about sex in general: Look at every single prophet and holy man in the bible. Does it *ever* mention them having sex?
This either means:
A. God doesn't care who you have sex with as long as both people aren't married or they're both married to eachother.
or
B. He'd prefer that you have your mind more on him than on sex.

If the modern translations give you the impression that fornication is ok then there is a problem with those translations, the Bible does not change so if the modern translations do not convey the true meaning as Christians have held it since the time of Christ then those Bibles are no good.

In the Bible I use God is quite clear in this matter.

adtende tibi fili mi ab omni fornicatione et praeter uxorem tuam numquam patiaris crimen scire Tobias 4:13

Take heed to keep thyself, my son, from all fornication, and beside thy wife never endure to know a crime. Tobias 4:13

non erit meretrix de filiabus Israhel neque scortator de filiis Israhel Deut. 23:17

There shall be no whore among the daughters of Israel, nor whoremonger among the sons of Israel. Deut. 23:17

ut abstineatis vos ab immolatis simulacrorum et sanguine suffocato et fornicatione a quibus custodientes vos bene agetis valete Act. 15:29

That you abstain from things sacrificed to idols, and from blood, and from things strangled, and from fornication; from which things keeping yourselves, you shall do well. Fare ye well. Act. 15:29

Just a question here, but why is it that the newer translations are wrong when it comes to premarital sex, but they are right when it comes to "other things'? I've noticed that words change from translation to translation and it always seems that people will use different versions of the bible to back up their stance. If it says one thing in one version that can't prove your point, then you grab a different version that can.

Do any of you think that eventually you will ever all agree on just what version has the "most truth"? It's easy to see why there are so many different denominations of Christianity when you constantly see the proof that so many can't even agree on what the scriptures you base your faith on actually say.

This seems to be a big blockade within Christianity.

This will probably make me sound old, but the best english version is the KJV, due to the source material it used. The more contemporary versions are written as a type of paraphrasing, so that people who don't know merry ole England writing can get the grasp of what it is to be Christian.

Although I don't like the word 'wrong', it's probably more appropriate to notice that they're closer to synonyms, but a word that is similar doesn't always convey the same meaning.

What's wrong with people having sex just for the fun of it?
I have an orgasm, you have an orgasm and everyone is happy, what's wrong with that?

The Bible tells us not to. For a number of good reasons. Sex, no matter how you dress it up to be, always has an emotional aspect. Not only are you giving up something of yourself, but you're also taking something from someone else. It's dangerous to make emotional exchanges like that when there is no comittment. That's why. IMHO.

Scripture is crystal clear that sex outside of heterosexual marriage is not kosher. IF you take scripture as your authority on such matters, that's the end of the discussion. I may not understand all the reasons for the prohibition, but that's a secondary matter.

I never spotted this forum section before 'liberal christianity'.

Ok...here is liberal for you.

The bible says:

'all things are permitted, but not all things are good for you'.

So is pre-marital sex good for you?

If you wanna have sex before marriage your gonna try and get a way to do it anyway, either by reasoning its ok, or by saying sorry to god afterwards.

What you really have to ask yourself is...what has pre-marital sex done for me lately apart from having an orgasm?

Now if having an orgasm can make you grow spiritually id say...have mulitple.

Personally i havent had one orgasm that made me understand god better and made me more in tune with him.

It does transport me somewhere.....but it doesn help me grow. Is that advantageous to me? If im not careful it might even hurt me. Not the orgasm, but the person in my life that im having sex with could very well lead me down the dark and dungy road...is that worth an orgasm and seperation from god? Nope.

Back when I was Christian I believed in the whole no sex before marriage thing and held onto that for awhile even after leaving the faith. I eventually realized that commitment and love mattered far more than a piece of paper. The way I see it if you love eachother and are committed to eachother then you are already in a sense "married". I've never understood why a piece of paper should make any difference in that regard. So I no longer view sex before marriage as sinful. Heck now I don't even view sex just for fun as sinful, it's just no something I would do personally.

I don't know. I wish there some Greater Being that gives meaning to the world, but I doubt it.

Still, I don't know. So, I'm agnostic.

It's produced two beautiful children creating a wonderful and loving family...that's what it's done for me.

Seriously though, pre-marital sex can answer some vital questions for the couple planning on getting married. Two of the main reasons that couples have problems are financial and sex. Some couples find that they are sexually unfulfilled within their marriage and that can lead to extramarital indiscretions. By finding out before marriage that you are sexually compatible and fulfilled with each other can help diminish those possibilities. Truly...you don't want to wait until after you have pledged your life to someone only to find out that what they get aroused by and what they sexually enjoy you may find repulsive or undignified. Or what you might consider to be sexy your partner finds uncomfortable. Just another point of view here.
