People speak of "God", both theists and atheists alike. This is more often than not referring to the God of Abraham, aka Allah and Yahweh. This is the God we are discussing for the purpose of this thread.

The question is pretty straightforward.

Is God a deity?

Feel free to explain your response to the poll.

Deity is synonymous with god. In Abrahamic context, he is the only deity worthy of worship. Other deities hence are falsehoods. This doesn't mean they don't exist, it means, they don't deserve to be worshiped.

God is a mystery.

And since we know that mysteries exist, it’s reasonable to assume that God exists, and that the greatest of all mysteries is God.

We are talking about word definitions, ultimately. If people are speaking about a "deity", the first thing that will come to mind is a god

The Self externalised is Deity (Iswara).
The Self internalized in Atman.
The Self Universalized is Brahman.
Perceiving all these to be the Same.
One attains the Final truth.

Not really. We're talking more about individual/religious perspective.

Dangit! I completely forgot dictionaries exist!

I guess I can go ahead and delete the thread now...

I dunno...someone may come up with an interesting point of view, not constrained as mine is by dull recitation of dictionary definitions...
In all seriousness, there is a reason I created this thread other than to just get a simple definition, but I'm going to withhold any spoilers until most who are interested in the topic have had the opportunity to throw their hat in the ring.

I've had people tell me that God is not a deity before. I guess they didn't stick around to participate in this poll.

I did have a member tell me that God is not a god a couple of weeks ago. Hopefully he'll chime in here.
