If Obama's critics would offer something coherent, I would listen to them.

no. they just want to tax the hell out of us...being decently honest about the fact that they spend money.

Republicans WANT to cut taxes without balancing our budget. some suceed...most dont. FIRST THINGS FIRST!! BALANCE THE FREAKIN BUDGET!!!

Reagan basically cut the taxes pretty well, and then they pretty much sky rocketed.

I thought you said your dad's taxes have not changed since Reagan.

since whoever was after reagan...really since after Clinton I guess, cause HW didnt really raise taxes, he basicaly was mini reagan.

It was on fire when I laid down on it.
How are you going to accomplish that goal by simply cheering on everything the Republican party does, and criticizing everything the Democrats do?

I guess if you pulled up and scoured through every single one of my nearly two thousand posts on this forum, you might be able to find ONE or TWO things I've said that is positive toward a Republican - but you'd have to really look hard.

Heck, you may find a positive phrase or two about Democrats for that matter.

But overall, I am pretty critical of what the whole lot of them does up on the Hill - it just so happens that the Democrats are running things now, so it's their turn to catch hell from Kathryn.

I think that's pretty obvious from my posts, but apparently it's more convenient for you to categorize me as a Republican than to actually listen to what I'm saying.

For the record, I voted for Hillary Clinton in the last election - an act that was barely palatable for me at the time, but seemed the least destructive of my extremely limited choices.

Agreed. McCain was a piece of crap candidate. The republicans had pretty much no options that year. Now sarah Palin...that would be interesting, fun, frustrating, and funny.

Have you got any facts to back up your opinion? For example, the details on how tax rates and spending have changed from one administration to the next?

Because I've got to be honest with you, the idea that Democrats are "tax and spend" is a common Republican yapping point. I could quite easily dismiss your comment on the basis that if I can find it coming out of Rush Limbaugh's mouth, it is not YOUR opinion (see rule 2).

But, I'm giving you a break, since you're 15. If you can find evidence - facts, data, statistics, etc. - supporting your opinion that Democrats (because you have no liberals) "tax the hell out of you", I'll consider it.

Wait - it's our CHILDREN AND GRANDCHILDREN who are going to get the hell taxed out of them.

Whew, I feel better now.

What are you talking about? You just started a whole thread about how excited you are about the Tea Parties. Whose idea do you think those were??? Ron Paul's????

Alceste -- don't believe everything you read. It's not just Republicans at these Tea Parties. Never has been.

Take it from someone who has attended several, rather than getting your Tea Party reviews from journalists who are getting paid to spin.

I'm not getting paid - I'm just getting screwed.

Speaking of parties, I'm leaving this one. My big comfy bed, bought with my capitalist dollars, is calling my name.

Pssst... shorty, communism and socialism are not the same thing. Better go look them both up or you might end up sounding silly.

Can you please stop spouting what amounts to an incoherent blob of talking points and actually attempt to understand what you are talking about?

Go read Adam Smith. Then go look at what modern economic liberalism has done to his philosophy. And if that is too hard, read anything by Chomsky (except his linguistic works). And if that STILL doesnt get it to sink through, get the cliffnotes version of chomsky.

that was the whole point! socialism is half communism...a baby communist, if you wil. We are fascist. Communisms little sister. Socialists are little sisters of communists, basically

Kathryn, I invite you to meet a few of the Tea Party Movement organizers:

Joe Wierzbicki - SourceWatch (republican)
Howard Kaloogian - SourceWatch (republican)
Sal Russo - SourceWatch (republican)
Kelly S. Eustis - SourceWatch (republican)

These men are professional public relations people working for the Republicans. Propagandists. They are being paid a fortune - more money than you could possibly imagine - to organize a fake grassroots movement for the benefit of the Republican Party.

For YOU to tell ME to be wary of people who are paid to spin under the circumstances is simply astonishing.

Sorry honey, I know you're trying but it's still coming out nonsense. Please, go look up communism and socialism, then come back.

I KNOW WHAT THEY MEAN!!!! FOR CHRISTS SAKE CANT YOU SHOW SOME CIVILTY AND RESPECT!!!!! or am i too young for that, huh? I know what socialism is. Its in the middle of Capitolism and Communism/Marxism.

CAPITALISM-SOCIALISM--------------------------------------------------------------------Communism.

It covers pretty much all the bases. Technically, I am a Socialist, because I believe in a decent amount of taxes, but no more than 30 percent overall

I'm being pretty civil. In fact, I'm trying to be helpful. You're still wrong, which only shows that you haven't gone and looked them up as I suggested.

Socialism is a political theory advocating state ownership of industry.
Communism is a form of socialism that abolishes private ownership.

I got that from the dictionary. See? I don't ask you to do anything I'm not willing to do myself.

I think it would be better if you didn't think of different political theories in terms of their position in relationship to each other on an imaginary line. I expect that's what they taught you in school - they taught me that anyway. But there's no line. Each political theory is quite distinct, and when you begin to learn the details of each, the line they've taught you about ceases to be useful.
