if God can do anything, can he lie?

Sleeppy

Fatalist. Christian. Pacifist.
You must have an interesting definition of the word "lie".

Being wrong is not the same as lying.
To lie, there needs be an intention of deception.
So to deceive someone is to lie to them.
Lies are not limited to spoken statements.

Can a rock lie to you?

When God asked Abraham to sacrifice his son, was God serious or was lying for a purpose ?

Technically, I do not see the lie. He did not say the sacrifice will end successfully.

What I see is a useless test (for an all knowing God) that achieved the only result of scaring a poor child (who would probably be removed from dad and sent to social services today).

Reality is illusory; this is true. But, even lies require some measure of truth as a base.
They do. Lies are based on truths. But since we can never really see or understand the full truth, we're always living in a lie. Our sensory and subjective view of the world is just an interpretation of what we experience, not what the real things are. And if that is to be the image of God, well, then we can make some inferences regarding God.

Peace be on you.
God was serious.
It was symbolic massage.
Hazrat Ibrahim (a.s.) had already fullfiled it by leaving the son and wife in wilderness. That is why it was said:

[37:106] ‘Thou hast indeed fulfilled the dream.’ Thus indeed do We reward those who do good.

It is somewhat like اقتلوا انفسكم (lit: Kill yourself) but it means Kill your mean desires.

So Allah the Exalted was serious and Hazrat Ibrahim a.s did not lie, since he was very highly obedient, he inclined toward literal meaning which he was promptly stopped to act upon.

Abraham was going to kill his son as God ordered, why God changed his mind if he was serious ?
I didn't say Abraham was lying, Abraham believed God and he was going to kill his own Son,right .
