Manson, Gacy, Bundy.
Joseph Mengele was the dbag "chief medical officer" at Auschwitz who committed "experiments" on prisoners, notably on juvenile twins, like unnecessary amputations, infecting them with typhoid and other diseases. Among other atrocities. He personally was involved in hundreds of thousands of deaths. He was called Todesengel (English: Angel of Death). The coward fled to Argentina.

Howard Shipman was more recent, he died 18 years ago. Another medical doctor (GP), he killed several patients, close to 300 of them. Most were elderly, though he's suspected of killing some children.

And with the right amount of therapy and medication, these people may have likely never even committed their actions.

People that are willing to act that way, are mentally and spiritually ill.

No one wakes up one day and goes, "you know what, I'm gonna be an evil d-bag today".

I doubt it because our justice system is based solely on punishment. Rehabilitation wouldn't have even been considered in cases like theirs. Most would rather see them burn, so to speak.
What is there to doubt? Of course they're examined, from day one, to determine whether they're competent to stand trial and for their defense to see if there is any mental health angle they could use to defend them regarding their mental state while committing those crimes. There'd been approved psych evaluations by both the prosecution and defense. If there was any chance they were rehabilitative, that would come out by defense as a reason to take the death penalty off the table.

Mengele wasn't evaluated because the coward fled to Argentina where he aided in the escape of other cowards. But killing about 500,000 people should be a clear indication he wasn't rehabilitation material.

Evidence for that assertion? All of these people were of sound mind. Most Nazis weren't prosecuted, they literally went back to civilian life and held jobs in politics, sciences and corporations. Some were even allowed to emigrate to the US, untried. One even worked for NASA. They killed because they wanted to and were quite aware of their choices and actions.

Humans are part of the animal kingdom and just like other species, there are always individuals who are defective and dangerous beyond rehabilitation. Ironically, when it's a 4-legged animal that proves too dangerous to be left free, the decision is "the humane thing to do" is to put it down, not risk the lives of caretakers by keeping it in a cage in the hopes of somehow doing the impossible.

There are people who are treatable and others who are not. That's the case both physically (terminal illness) and mentally (degenerates). In either instance, pretending their condition can change is folly. Not everyone can be saved. That's reality.

Nonsense, history is loaded with centuries of despots and their armies who were just that.

I agree to disagree. And I refuse to see anyone or thing as purely bad, or purely good. Call it my character flaw.
That's your choice but history shows otherwise. We're just not that noble of a species, we're as dangerous as we are creative, if not moreso.
